We curated the ultimate Generation Iron workout mix.

Ever since Sony invented the Walkman, people have been taking their music everywhere. Even more so now with the invention of mp3 players and smart phones. This also means that athletes have been able to bring their music into the gym. Workout songs are an important part of exercise for many gym goers. It provides motivation and allows for that extra push through the last reps of a set.

But you can’t just slap together any old list of workout songs – making a mix is an art. You need to curate the perfect songs that will invigorate you the most. So we’ve gone around the Generation Iron office to find out everyone’s favorite workout songs and curated the ultimate Generation Iron workout mix.

10. Click Click Boom – Saliva

Working out is like a gun. You cock it during the warm up and then pull the trigger when you power through those sets. It’s an explosion. A sudden rush of adrenaline and energy. It’s fast. It’s dangerous. It’s powerful. Saliva’s Click Click Boom encapsulates all of these things – from the heavy riffs all the way to the very title of the song.

9. Move B**** – Ludacris

Okay, let’s use another metaphor for this one. When you get a good workout you’re like a freight train. Unstoppable. You don’t want anyone or anything to get in the way of your groove. While Ludacris’ wasn’t talking about working out when he wrote the incredibly crass Move B**** – the chorus and beat perfectly encapsulate how you feel while lifting. Just move out of the way.

8. Welcome to the Jungle – Guns N’ Roses

A gym is like a jungle of metal and weights. There we go with the metaphors again. Last one, we promise. This song gets on the list because Slash’s guitar riff-age is just so crazy awesome that it can inspire anyone to get pumped up. This workout song will make you the lion of the gym – the king of the jungle.

7. Master of Puppets – Metallica

Heavy metal is fantastic for heavy lifting. So what better workout song to have on your mix than the masters of heavy metal – Metallica. Right when that guitar kicks in your heart starts to race. Master of Puppets is a nonstop thrill of driving drums and shredding guitars. Much like the metal heads building their neck muscles from constant head banging – you will be gaining mass as you pump the weights to this song.

6. Stronger – Kanye West

A big part of working out is getting into a groove, a rhythm, a pattern. Kanye’s Stronger has the perfect constant beat to keep each rep in perfect rhythm. Even as you tire – you’ll continue the pace as the song keeps chanting to you: “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.”

5. Thunderstruck – AC/DC

This one’s another guitar driven track that just keeps you pushing, pumping, and rocking through every rep in every set. There are so many AC/DC songs that are perfect to work out to – but we chose Thunderstruck because it conjures the electric power of lightening and thunder into your workouts.

4. Iron Man – Black Sabbath

One workout song we all agreed had to be on this list was Iron Man – because let’s face it we already share half of the songs title. Super heroes always conjure up imagery of super strength and the impossible. Black Sabbath channeled that energy into song with Iron Man. Listening to the song; you too will become like a metallic suit of armor – capable of lifting even the heaviest of iron.

3. Gunna Fly Now (Rocky Theme) – Bill Conti

This one is a classic. One of the most inspiring sports montage songs ever put to the screen. Gunna Fly Now conjures so much imagery of building and working towards a goal. That ultimate destiny that we all believe to deserve. Rocky was the example of what an underdog can become. Who knows, maybe you can be the next champion to rise to victory through this workout song.

2. Mama Said Knock You Out – LL Cool J

Don’t call it a comeback. LL Cool J stands in the corner of a boxing ring as he drops the first lines of this classic hip hop song. Everything about this song is inspiring – the music video, the beat, and the lyrics that spit fire into your body as you lift each and every weight.

1. Eye of the Tiger – Survivor

While the original Rocky theme song inspires grand motivation – the follow up theme song, Eye of the Tiger, is the one that stuck around in every person’s heart. It’s a song about “rising up to the challenge of our rival.” You are a tiger, a beast, an unstoppable force to be reckoned with. At least that’s how the song will make you feel while you’re lifting anyway.
