IS THIS MAN THE DEFINITION OF BODYBUILDING PERFECTION?

Generation Iron Bodybuilding Perfection

Michael Lockett: the bodybuilder who should rise to stardom.

Many fans would argue that the Golden Era of bodybuilding has been long dead. The days of aesthetic physiques being featured in the open weight class of bodybuilding competitions are a thing of the past and to many that’s not entirely a bad thing. There are tons of people who believe that the appeal of bodybuilding in this day and age are to see men with monstrous size compete against each other. Men that by the laws of nature shouldn’t even be able to exist. Men that look more like comic book superheroes than actual human beings. It’s what sells tickets for these events and it’s what keeps us tuning in.

But not everyone believes that bodybuilding’s current path is the right one. Many people, including former bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger, believes that bodybuilding needs a return to form. Though its a time long gone, aesthetics need to be reintroduced into bodybuilding, even highlighted. All the way back from Eugene Sandow to the 70’s Golden Era even into the 80’s, bodybuilding has been about packing on massive muscle, having a broad upper body that tapers down to a slim midsection. That was the idea of perfection before supplementation set everything apart.

Now it’s all about size, has big you can grow and still be shredded. It’s a tough thing to accomplish, but is what needs to be highlighted? Are the physiques of the past what we should be praising rather than the mass monsters of today? All of that is subjective. But it seems that some bodybuilders are embracing the look of the past. Michael Lockett is one such bodybuilder.

An IFBB bodybuilder with tons of potential, Lockett has a physique that instantly calls back to the athletes of the past. Lockett has the massive size you’d expect from a modern bodybuilder, yet he has a tapered waist and is more lean and streamlined, much like the men who competed during the 70’s. With such an impressive and classic physique it’s a wonder why Lockett isn’t being talked about more. Just look at his physique and try to argue it isn’t among the best out of the bodybuilders that take to the Olympia stage.

Some may not appreciate the bodybuilders of the past, but to those who aren’t fans of the classic physique, taking a look at Lockett should give you a new appreciation for the physiques of the Golden Era. Lockett has years left in the sport and with some consistent wins, who knows, maybe he’ll be vying for the Olympia championship one day.
