UFC FIGHT NIGHT 91 BREAKDOWN: MICHAEL MCDONALD VS JOHN LINEKER

After all that battling from last week and a UFC sale on their hands you’d think the world’s biggest MMA promotion would take a moment to relax and catch their breath. Well, if you were one of those people thinking that the UFC would take a break then you’re sorely mistaken. Tomorrow two high level Bantamweights throw down in the main event of UFC Fight Night 91. IMG_McDonald_1004.JPG_2_1_VDOS0RQ_L16733307Michael McDonald and John Lineker still have a ton of upside despite each man having twenty or more fights under their belts. This fight is intriguing mainly because of the fact that despite all around games these two men prefer to trade on the feet. That means the fan should expect a stand up war, one that could possibly end at any moment and in shocking fashion. Of the two strikers, Michael McDonald is the faster, more counter based fighter. McDonald looks for counter opportunities with every striking exchange. He does lead the dance at times, but for the most part McDonald probes with his jab and tries to create situations where he can counter back with an explosive series of punches, all of them with some great variety and speed. If the fight hits the floor then McDonald should have an advantage there as well as he is adept at fighting off of his back and is tricky in setting up submissions. 090515-UFC-John-Lineker-Francisco-Rivera-LN-PI.vresize.1200.675.high.90If you had to describe John Lineker’s fighting style in one word then it would undoubtedly be power. The former Flyweight contender has had some good success ever since moving back up to Bantamweight and looks to enter the top five in the division with a win at UFC Fight Night 91. Lineker likes to stalk his opponents then let off well placed hooks to either the body and the head or to the head and the body. This up and down attacks has confounded opponents before and will likely be the Brazilians mode of attack for this fight. This should be a fun fight while it lasts, but McDonald has enough boxing acumen, speed, and power that he should be able to catch Lineker coming in. Look for McDonald to use his length and speed to his advantage, scouring a TKO victory in the second round. Who do you think will win at UFC Fight Night 91?
