The death of George Floyd has rocked the nation.
Killed in Minneapolis, Minnesota by police officer Derek Chauvin, George Floyd’s death has sparked protests not only across the United States, but the world.
The protests has at time broken into full scale riots, Americans voicing their anger, rage, and upset over the senseless killing. This all comes at a time when the global health crisis has killed thousands. It’s clear that a shift is happening, one that will have a continued impact across the world.
The death of Floyd has permeated every realm, including fitness and bodybuilding. IFBB Pro League president Jim Manion recently made a statement about the killing of George Floyd.
The NPC, NPC Worldwide and IFBB Professional League are deeply saddened over the death of George Floyd and the ongoing events of racism and violence that are happening all over the world. The foundation of these organizations has always been to give everyone the opportunity to compete and display themselves on stage no matter the color of their skin, the religion they practice, or the country they are from. We feel that bodybuilding is a sport of unity, equality, and positivity and we will do everything we can to display that throughout all of our platforms. We are all equals and I’m praying for justice, equality, and peace to take over instead of hate.
The killing of George Floyd was truly senseless and inexcusable. We can only hope that justice is served.
