UFC 199 BREAKDOWN: DOMINICK CRUZ VS URIJAH FABER

cruz vs faber headerThe rubber match is upon us and their can be only one winner.

The co-main event features a rubber match between two of the best bantamweights in the division’s history. To say Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber aren’t the best of friends would be an understatement. Hell, to say that they hate each other is a bit of an understatement as well. These two men have had bad blood since the first time they faced each other in the WEC. Back then Faber was the Featherweight champion and number one in the world, while Cruz was the young prospect unknown to the masses, set up as fodder for the champ to quickly dispose of. As things turned out, it played out as the mismatch it was intended to be. Since then, Cruz has gone undefeated, impressing more and more with every victory, including one over his rival Faber. Now one and one, the two men will settle things in this rubber match that is sure to put a capper on the rivalry. A wizard of movement, Dominick Cruz has blended his kickboxing game with potent wrestling to make a style all his own. He’s fleet of foot, nearly impossible to hit, and knows how to win. Perhaps the biggest knock on Cruz is his lack of finishes, a drawback of his constant movement. He never stays in one place long enough to plant his feet and fire hard power shots. But in the scrambles he can be vicious, especially if he gets his man down as Takeya Mizugaki found out the hard way. Cruz did face some trouble in his last bout with TJ Dillashaw’s leg kicking game, but Cruz is a tactical fighter and will likely have made the adjustments needed to fend off that particular chink in his armor. Urijah Faber is perhaps the most talented fighter to never hold a UFC belt. Though he was the WEC Featherweight champion for years it still looks the gravitas that being UFC champion holds. Faber is explosive, knows when to recover his gas tank, and does extremely well in scrambles. The problem for Faber in this match is that his weapons are far more limited than Cruz’s own. Faber knows how to finish fights, but doing so against a defensive based fighter like Cruz will prove to be a tall task. Faber will have to add some kicks to his game, time takedowns, and throw plethora of different punches in order clip Cruz. For all the talent, charisma, and athleticism that Faber possesses it just isn’t enough to overcome an all around fighter like Cruz. The champion knows when to strike, when to avoid offense, and exactly when to mix up his wrestling to throw off his opponent’s rhythm. Look for Dominick Cruz to beat Urijah Faber by unanimous decision, ending their long feud. Who do you think will be taking home the Bantamweight strap? IS THIS A BETTER WAY TO CONSUME YOUR EGG WHITES?

Generation Iron Eggwhites 24-7

Generation Iron Eggwhites 24-7

More protein and faster.

You can ask any bodybuilder trying to achieve the ultimate physique and most will tell you the hardest part isn’t getting into the gym or deciding how to do their training split. More than likely the biggest problem they face during their bodybuilding endeavors is knowing exactly what they need to put into their bodies in order to achieve the gains they desire.

Of course many know the basics of achieving a massive and shredded physique. Follow you macronutrition to the T, making sure to balance protein, carbs, and fats in an attempt to put the body in the right condition to spark growth. For many that means eating lean protein like chicken breast, carbs from vegetables and perhaps healthy fats like the kind derived from avocados. It can be a pretty simple question to answer as to what to put into your body. But that’s not where the biggest challenge comes in. What about the bodybuilder who is constantly on the move?

It’s perhaps easiest to get carbs and fats at your local thrift store in the form of nuts like almonds. Protein on the other hand can be a more difficult food source to procure. You could get one of those protein drinks that they sell these days, but often times those products are loaded with sugar, sodium, and all different kinds of nonsense that is sure to do more harm than good. If there was a way to obtain pure protein without additives or junk and carry it on the go life would be simpler.

Well, it seems that Egg Whites 24/7 has come up with a way for any bodybuilder to get a tremendous amount of protein all in one shot. Their liquid egg white products are exactly what a bodybuilder needs when they’re looking to ingest protein on the go with no added ingredients. It’s fat and cholesterol free, offers one gram of carbohydrates and 26 grams of protein per serving meaning that hitting your protein goals have never been easier.

Who has time to crack open eggs and separate the yolk from the egg whites? We definitely don’t – and you shouldn’t have to. But if you want to save time and be a total badass at the same time – you can chug down some raw egg whites (or cook it if that’s what you’re into…) like Rocky and get all the protein you need immediately. Don’t worry – Eggwhites 24/7 guarantees that you can slurp these down completely raw and completely safe.

So is Eggwhites 24/7 completely necessary for your bodybuilding diet? No – but is it an awesome product that fits perfectly in line with a bodybuilding lifestyle? Hell yes. So if you want to mix up your egg game – try these guys out at their official website right here.

Are you looking for a way to get more quality protein into your diet?

Build A Truly Mutant Back Using This Exercise You’re Most Likely Overlooking

Build A Mutant Back Generation Iron
Strength Wars Movie

The exercise you’re probably overlooking.

One of the strongest guys I’ve ever known, was a stocky ex-con. At 5’7” and 190 lbs, this guy could move people and things with an effortless ease most guys well over 200 lbs couldn’t. When I asked about his workout routine I was surprised at his arsenal, mostly consisting of body weight exercises, he told me the close grip pull up was king. While he was doing his bid he saw a lot of big muscle guys get taken down by smaller raw strength guys and pretty much swore by the law of pullups. So when I came across this video, I had to share the simple magnificent of the close grip pull up.

While I don’t totally agree with a low weights approach, incorporating body weight exercises is the perfect way to add definition and strength into specific areas. In the video below, Muscle “Mutant” Johnnie O. Jackson shows you the correct way to the close grip pull down. The exercise focus on the erector spinae muscles (the big cable muscles running directly north to south on your back) and the traps. These muscles are responsible for big power moves and helping you stay upright. This exercises is known for bringing out genetics most people didn’t even know they had, leaving you with a back ridge a stegosaurus would be jealous of.

Use this exercise to build flexibility in strength that you can transfer over to lifting heavier weights, leading you to… wait for it… massive GAINS!

JUAN MOREL ANNOUNCES HE WILL TAKE A FULL YEAR OFF COMPETING

Juan Morel Takes Year Off Generation Iron

Juan Morel Takes Year Off Generation Iron

After a tough New York Pro, Juan Morel reassesses his strategy.

There comes a time in every competitive athlete’s career when they have to sit back, take a good look at what’s going on, and assess if they’re giving themselves the best shot at victory. Many competitive athletes will hit a wall and rather than dissect the situation, find out what went wrong, and fix it, they’d rather make excuses, blame their failure on outside forces, claiming that they would have been better if not for this and carry on the same way as if doing so will somehow ensure victory the next time out.

For a bodybuilder, such a thought process will ensure only one thing: continued failure. But it’s the athlete who sits back and takes time to work out the kinks that will ultimately be better for it. In order to improve in a sport like bodybuilding you must be willing to recognize and point out your weaknesses then attack them without mercy. By doing so they may not end up being the best, but they will at least have a better chance at becoming the best version of themselves and really that’s what the whole endeavor is about in the first place.

It seems that Juan Morel has learned that notion well.

After taking sixth place at this years NY Pro, Juan Morel has chosen to assess his weak points and figure out how exactly he can improve. Morel took to Instagram to inform his fans of exactly what he has planned and from the looks of things, the plan is quite drastic.

Okay everyone so here it is; I’m officially offseason. I’m taking a whole year off, yes you heard that right, a whole year! I am not going to try and qualify for the Olympia, I need a break- my body is tired and I’m tired… I have been consistently competing since 2014 without a real offseason; I competed in 16 shows from 2014 till now!! And we all know an offseason is a must to make improvements and changes. It’s time for me to make a dramatic change to my physique. Since I have been a pro I’ve never had a full year off season. This will be my first & I’m going to get huge- not gonna try and grow while maintaining abs cause let’s be serious you really can’t grow and try to stay lean. I’m going to get huge that’s how I always made my best improvements!! I’m going to eat like a beast everyday, I will eat big to get big and gonna train like a bigger beast- 2017 the Diesel is gonna come back bigger and better!!

MR. UNIVERSE CLAIMS DIET WITHOUT MEAT WILL MAKE YOU STRONGER

Generation Iron Mr. Universe No Meat Diet

Generation Iron Mr. Universe No Meat Diet

No meat. Stronger gains.

When it comes to packing on the pounds, of muscle of course, it means you have to have a few elements in check. Firstly you have to design a workout split that will stimulate growth in all of the major body parts. Second, you must have a diet plan that’s going to push you in the right direction. It’s the reason why so many bodybuilders follow a strict diet plan that centers around macronutrition. No matter a bodybuilder’s experience level you’re always likely to hear them talk about getting the right amount of carbs, fats, and protein throughout the day in order for their bodies to not only grow, but have energy as well.

When it comes to doing the actual work in the gym that last bit of info is perhaps the most important. If you’re looking to stimulate growth in your muscles then that means you need to have the energy to push yourself hard during a workout. Energy, along with strength is a major factor in continuing to grow all your major body parts.

A traditional bodybuilders diet will consist of greens, rice or sweet potato, and some kind of protein source, many times lean meat like chicken or steak. It’s been the tried and true formula for years. But it seems that these days anyone can become a bodybuilder, even someone who practices vegetarianism and veganism.

Many bodybuilders scoff at the idea of having to cut meat out of their diets. Cutting meat protein out of their diet seems to be foolish mostly because they believe that there’s no other way to get an adequate amount of protein or calories in general.

But apparently going on a vegan diet may have some added benefits. According to 2014 Mr. Universe Barny du Plessis, veganism can also ensure that you have even more strength and energy during your training.

Would you ever cut meat out of your diet?

CHET YORTON: THE NATURAL BODYBUILDER WHO DEFEATED ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER

Generation Iron Chet Yorton

Generation Iron Chet Yorton

A surprising defeat for the Austrian Oak.

For the most part there are two different factions that make up the bodybuilding community. There are bodybuilders who use gear, or steroids, in order to see more advanced results. Then there are natural bodybuilders who have a belief that they can attain the ultimate physique without resorting to using any outside substances. Many people who aren’t well educated on the subject may believe that bodybuilders that use gear have a much easier time building muscle. Though an anabolic user may utilize steroids the truth of the matter is that if they wish to see major results then they’re going to have to put the work in. Because of the success so many professional bodybuilders have had using steroids, many believe that the natural bodybuilder will always look less impressive than the athletes on gear.

[wptouch target=”mobile”]

[/wptouch]
[wptouch target=”non-mobile”]
[/wptouch]
.

Back in the 60s and 70s, or the Golden Era as many refer to it, bodybuilders didn’t use nearly as much gear as they do today. Sure, they did use steroids as well, but the extent to which the athletes of yesterday utilized anabolic was far less than what we see today. Nevertheless there were still bodybuilders who believed that they could achieve greatness without the aid of any outside elements. There’s nothing that can replace good, hard training after all. It’s the ideology that Chet Yorton subscribed to back in his competition days.

Yorton was a man who didn’t subscribe to the bodybuilding lifestyle until he was in a horrible car accident that would heavily damage his body. During his rehabilitation however, Yorton discovered the very thing that would change his life forever. A pair of dumbbells. That’s right, a pair of dumbbells sitting in the corner of the rehabilitation room would be the first step to shaping a physique that was capable of outclassing some of the best bodybuilders in the world. After only lifting for several months, Chet Yorton found that he had packed on 55 lbs, most of that being lean muscle mass.

Generation Iron Chet Yorton

So what exactly made Yorton the man he is today? The man people refer to as the father of natural bodybuilding? Well, during the 1966 Mr. Universe competition, Yorton would face off with a young man by the name of Arnold Schwarzenegger. While many thought Arnold would eventually take the title at the show, it was Yorton who impressed the judges and proved that his hard work and determination would pay off and be the ultimate deciding factor in the outcome.

Years into his bodybuilding career Yorton would discover steroids, but after being informed of their side effects, chose not to use the anabolic substance. He believed that hard work would bring him equal amounts of success and so it did. In 1975 he established the NBA, Natural Bodybuilders Association, the only organization to do testing for steroids. It was the beginning of the rift that we see today in the bodybuilding community. While there may be nothing wrong with a bodybuilder taking steroids, the questions becomes that if Chet Yorton was able to look so impressive, what’s stopping anyone else from achieving an awesome physique with hard work, dedication, and a single minded drive to improve?

UFC 199 BREAKDOWN: MAX HOLLOWAY VS RICARDO LAMAS

SAN ANTONIO, TX - JUNE 28: (L-R) Ricardo Lamas punches Hacran Dias in their featherweight bout at the AT&T Center on June 28, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. (Photo by Ed Mulholland/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

holloway vs lamas headerThis Featherweight throwdown could provide the next title challenger.

Another of the great non title fights featured on the stellar UFC 199 card, Max Holloway versus Ricardo Lamas is fight that could determine who will be next in line to fight for either the interim or unified Featherweight title. Both men are at the top of the division and are simply missing that signature win to put them back in title contention.Max-Holloway-2 Max Holloway has been on fire since dropping a decision to Conor McGregor back in August 2013. He has used his sophisticated striking based attack to outwork his opponents usually leading to a knock out or submission victory. If Holloway does have any weakness it would be his wrestling game, but even that “weakness” has become tremendously improved. At this point, Holloway is looking like a true enigma that many opponents will have trouble solving going forward. With an eight fight win streak it’s easy to argue for Holloway to receive a title shot ASAP, but he’ll have to prove himself worthy with a convincing victory over Lamas. LamasMandelSherdog2-e1371605066772-640x400After challenging for the Featherweight belt in February 2014, Ricardo Lamas has been up and down in his last few UFC bouts. Lamas is a talented wrestler with some decent striking. The problem he has in the striking realm is the fact that he either sometimes is a bit too gun shy or that he finds himself punching while he’s out of proper position which has resulted in some devastating results for him during his career. What he’ll need to do to overcome the streaking Holloway is use his wrestling and striking in conjunction constantly. That means shooting for takedowns and striking continuously through three rounds, chaining takedowns together and smothering Holloway’s offense. Lamas does have a good chance to win, but the kind of game plan he’ll need to succeed in this fight will prove to be too exhausting for the former title challenger to deal with. Expect Max Holloway to gauge Ricardo Lamas’ timing and eventually finish him with strikes in the second round. Which featherweight will rise to the occasion?
