Oscar De La Hoya Training In Hopes Of Conor McGregor Fight

It’s the fight no one is asking for, but one many would watch anyway.

So ever since Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather went to battle back in August it seems that everyone and their momma are looking to enter the McGregor sweepstakes. Mayweather-McGregor generated a tremendous amount of revenue so it’s no wonder that any and everyone involved in both the boxing and MMA arena are looking to fight the brash Irishman. One such individual is retired boxer turned promoter Oscar De La Hoya.

In his heyday, Oscar De La Hoya was one of the most popular boxers in the world with a ton of victories over talented competition. The man nicknamed “Golden Boy” after winning gold at the 1992 Olympic games, De La Hoya has taken his success in the ring and turned it into legitimate success as one of the premiere boxing promoters in the game today. But it appears that he’s still itching to get a fight. Not just any fight mind you, but a money fight with none other than UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

“You know I’m competitive,” De La Hoya said, while appearing on DashRadio. “You know I still have it in me. I’ve been secretly training. Secretly training. I’m faster than ever, and stronger than ever. I know I could take out Conor McGregor in two rounds. I’ll come back for that fight. Two rounds.

“Just one more. I’m calling him out. Two rounds. That’s all I need. That’s all I’m going to say.”

It’s a fight that no one asked for, yet Oscar De La Hoya is adamant about the fact that he’s ready to do battle with the Irish superstar. But, while Conor McGregor may moonlight as a boxer from time to time, there really is no incentive for the UFC champion to come back to boxing, especially when you consider the fact that he has a belt to defend. But Conor McGregor could still be in hot water after the incident that occurred over the weekend at Bellator 187. While it’s unclear if there will be consequences to his actions, if McGregor finds himself in a court hearing then it’s possible that fighting in either boxing or MMA could be a ways off.

Nevertheless, it seems as if Oscar De La Hoya is adamant about getting in shape to potentially do battle with McGregor. He’s even gone on the record stating that he’d finish McGregor inside two rounds. Anything’s possible of course, but at the age of 44 it’s doubtful De La Hoya will be able to take out a young fighter the caliber of McGregor.

What do you make of a Oscar De La Hoya vs Conor McGregor match up?
