UFC Fight Night 170: Charles Oliveira Submits Kevin Lee

Charles Oliveira comes out on top in an entertaining scrap.

In a fairly entertaining main event, Kevin Lee and Charles Oliveira went toe to toe trading blows and grappling exchanges.

It was apparent that Charles Oliveira held the striking advantage as Kevin Lee ate his fair share blows for as long as the fight lasted. But Lee was successful in spots, landing jabs and the occasional overhand right. But with crisper, smoother combinations, Oliveira began to pull ahead, never letting up on the pressure.

A number of grappling exchanges showed Kevin Lee avoiding submissions to land solid strikes on the ground. Oliveira remained active and hungry for the finish in the first two rounds. But he’d find no success until the third.

The pressure by Oliveira paid off in round three when another combination saw Lee shoot for a single leg takedown only to find himself locked up in a guillotine. A few seconds and a tight squeeze forced the tap out of Lee who immediately protested the stoppage. Some time and a replay made him come to grips with the loss.

Charles Oliveira has proven himself to be a force to be reckoned with at lightweight. With this win it will be interesting to see who he’s matched up with next.
