The Hurt Business is raw, real, and captivating.

Mixed martial arts. As a vocation it’s not for the faint of heart. To live the life of a warrior is one that can be filled with supreme glory or endless pain. Training in multiple disciplines, hardening yourself for battle, it takes a tremendous amount of dedication to turn your body into a weapon.

Dedicating your life to combat no doubt offers its fair share of stress. It’s a complicated life that fighters lead to say the least. But at their core, every fighter is a human, no more, no less.

That’s exactly what the documentary The Hurt Business captured.

From the producers of ‘Bowling for Columbine’, ‘Fahrenheit 9/11’ and ‘Generation Iron’, ‘The Hurt Business’ details the lives of martial arts superstars, including Ronda Rousey and Jon Jones, competing in one of the fastest growing sports in the world and the struggles and triumphs that accompany all careers in cage fighting.

Besides featuring legends, such as Georges St-Pierre, and up-and-comers in the sport the film covers the history of mixed martial arts fighting, from the coliseums of ancient Greece to modern day venues such as the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, all expertly narrated by Kevin Costner. Themes of injury both mental and physical are explored and the question is raised; is it worth it to sacrifice one’s mind and body for sport?

Ultimately it’s a question that every individual has to answer for themselves. Each fighter will have their own reasoning behind their dedication to the game. Each fighter will have their own interpretation of why sacrificing their bodies for the sport they love is well worth it.

Leigh Paatsch of The Herald Sun gave favorable reviews for the documentary in their review.

The Hurt Business is a refreshingly comprehensive, demystifying documentary look at the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA).”

One of the biggest MMA news outlets on the net, MMAJunkie had this to say about The Hurt Business.

“Director Vlad Yudin’s offering does manage to touch on the emotional core of the sport.”

With one of the film’s main focuses Jon Jones once again falling on hard times, now more than ever The Hurt Business demonstrates the struggles of being a professional MMA fighter. While so many of these figures are held in high regard, they’re no infallible. They all have their own unique struggles they deal with. None of these humans are perfect, something that is important to not despite their incredible success.

Whether you’re a fan of MMA or if you simply want to get a in-depth look into lives of professional athletes operating at the highest level of their sport, The Hurt Business is definitely a must-see documentary.

Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz are in full beast mode.

At some point in a fighters career they have to know when enough is enough. No matter how great and talented a fighter is, the reality of the situation is that they’re not immortal and they must come to grips with the fact that they’ll have to hang up the gloves and call it quits. For Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz we saw that day come and go as they walked off into the sunset and called it a career.

But now it seems that the powers that be have arranged for these two former foes to once again lock horns. Set to due battle under Golden Boy Promotions, Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz are coming out of retirement to face off one last time (or at least I hope).

Should these two still be fighting? The answer is perhaps more complicated than a simple yes or no. Both men are in their forties, both have made a ton of money, and both have taken a ton of damage over their respective careers. That said, the fire still burns in them, that yearning for competition that lingers in a fighters heart before, during, and after their career has ended.

Whether you agree with the bout taking place or not, both Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz seem to be taking the fight seriously as both men prepare themselves physically and mentally to do battle.

DAZN and Canelo Alvarez have struck an historic deal.

Combat sports continues to evolve in new and interesting ways as the introduction of a new streaming platform is catching the attention of the sporting world. DAZN was a little known platform just a few weeks ago, but has since established itself as the new powerhouse in combat sports broadcasting. The new streaming service has already signed Heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua to a major deal as well as Bellator MMA. Now, in a massive power move by the service, they have signed Canelo Alvarez to a massive multi-million dollar contract.

Signing on to DAZN for a 5 year, $365 million, 11 fight deal, Canelo Alvarez has entered some pretty rarefied air as he is likely to collect double that amount working with the service. Considered to be one of HBO Boxing’s last major money making figures, Alvarez making the move DAZN has some pretty massive implications. Canelo Alvarez leaving HBO speaks to the reality that the former boxing powerhouse broadcasting has lost their biggest star.

Essentially, Canelo Alvarez signing with DAZN has become the nail in the coffin for HBO Boxing.

Dominating the boxing market during the 90s and early 2000s thanks to big stars like Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, and Oscar De La Hoya, HBO Boxing was once a major source for the sweet science alongside Showtime Boxing. Now as Canelo Alvarez moves on to greener pastures it appears that HBO Boxing will be soon closing their doors on their combat sports broadcasting.

In one fell swoop, DAZN has become a major player in the combat sports world, and with their intentions of broadcasting both boxing and mixed martial arts events, a new day appears to be dawning in the fight game.

What do you think DAZN’s major deal with Canelo Alvarez?

Khabib Nurmagomedov is the latest hot commodity in MMA.

UFC 229 was billed as being the biggest fight in the company’s history and according to the pay-per-view numbers that estimation was more the valid. The event has shattered a ton of records with an estimated 2.4 million pay-per-view buys. The heated rivalry between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor made for a compelling lead up and the fight itself didn’t disappoint.

Then things reached an entirely different level.

Khabib Nurmagomedov launching himself at Dilon Danis, a teammate of Conor McGregor, post fight has made the UFC lightweight champion a viral sensation. While he may be suspended at the moment leaving his UFC future in question, it appears that other opportunities are popping up for the consensus number one Lightweight in the world.

50 Cent made a post that suggested that if Khabib Nurmagomedov wouldn’t continue fighting under the UFC brand that there was a little known MMA promotion, Bellator MMA, that would be more than happy to add the Dagestani native to their ranks.

Beside 50 Cent, it appears that Khabib Nurmagomedov wants in on the Floyd Mayweather sweepstakes as well as the UFC champion suggested that he wanted to do battle with the boxing genius.

Khabib Nurmagomedov also met with Russian President Vladimir Putin who congratulated the UFC Lightweight champion on his victory at UFC 229.

It seems that with his massive win over Conor McGregor a new star has been born in Khabib Nurmagomedov and everybody wants a piece of the pie.

50 Cent is looking to make some waves in the MMA market.

The landscape of MMA continues to change and transform, defying what we all thought was possible. In the inception of the sport, few thought that it would ever reach the height of popularity that it has, but lo and behold, mixed martial arts has grown to become the most recognizable combat sports on the planet.

As we creep further into the future, we’re seeing more and more celebrities get involved with MMA promotions. Bellator MMA has risen to become a legit competitor to the biggest mixed martial arts organization on the planet, the UFC. With plenty of talented fighters on their roster and some great cards with spectacular finished, Bellator has caught the eye of many fans, average Joes and celebrities alike.

One such celebrity is famed rapper and actor, Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson.

Known for his outspoken personality and ventures into multiple different markets, it was reported back in May that 50 Cent signed on with Bellator MMA as a promoter. Now it appears that 50 Cent is taking things a step further as he has signed a deal with the MMA organization to promote the entertainer’s very own apparel brand.

‘Get the Strap’ started out a social media tag that 50 Cent used in nearly all of his posts. Now the saying has grown in such popularity that the entertainer has decided to try his hand at transforming the saying into a clothing brand and it appears Bellator MMA is completely on board with the idea.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is sending a warning to 50 Cent.

Ever since 50 Cent has partnered up with Bellator MMA, talk has been swirling that the rapper and actor has been considering facing former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in an MMA fight.

The likelihood of such an action actually occurring is purely based on rumor and conjecture. While 50 Cent may be talking trash online, the rapper has been known to troll others on social media before. All this talk of a 50 Cent versus Rampage fight is simply a fabrication on the part of the fans. Nevertheless, the rumor is spreading like wildfire and has made it’s way to Rampage himself.

Confronted by TMZ Sports, Rampage goes on the record and warns 50 Cent to stick to rapping rather than fighting.

Now this is a turn of events no one saw coming.

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has dipped his toes in a number of projects over the years. From television and film to clothing and adult beverages, 50 Cent has built an empire by being unafraid to take risks with endeavors outside of music.

Now it seems as if 50 Cent is gearing up to tackle a whole new industry. While he may have had experience as a boxing promoter, 50 Cent has never delved into the world of MMA. But his recent activity online, specifically candid conversations with Bellator MMA fighter Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal, has indicated that 50 Cent may be looking to expand his reach to the world of mixed martial arts.

The post below shows 50 Cent meeting with Bellator MMA President Scott Coker, a heavy hitter in the world of MMA promotion. It seems as 50 Cent is hinting at big things.

Heather Hardy given a raw deal.

Yesterday morning, at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, Heather Hardy weighed in for her bout against Ana Julaton at Bellator 194. However, unbeknownst to her, Heather actually missed weight.

Officially, she weighed in at 126.25 pounds. As a result the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation will transfer 20 percent of Hardy’s total purse to Julaton. Director Mike Mazzulli told MMA Fighting. The fight is still on.

Curiously, Hardy did not know she had missed weight until alerted well after the weight in. Usually fighters are allowed to remove all clothing before stepping on the scale (covered by a suspended towel.) However, Mohegan did not allow Hardy to take advantage of this custom, and Hardy said she believed the commission was giving her a weight “allowance” as a result

“I did make the weight,” she said. “I was two ounces over and they gave me the allowance for the bikini top and bottom without making me strip in front of the room.”

Mazzulli said that he said he didn’t want her to strip down or the standard extra two hours to cut the excess weight.

Strength Wars Movie

“She wasn’t even speaking to me on the scale,” Mazzulli said. “I was concerned about her health and safety. I wasn’t going to put her on the scale with no clothes on and I certainly wasn’t going to let her continue cutting weight.”

But Hardy disagrees:

“I was backstage after the weigh-in hydrating and doing interviews for like an hour after…When they allowed me to go without stripping and cleared me for 126, I thought this was done. Happens in boxing all the time. They never make women strip for 2 ounces in a room full of 100 guys.”

This is a great example of why you don’t have fights in Indian Casino’s. Sure, the Nevada and California State Athletic commissions are sh*tshows, but at least they are well-practiced sh*tshows, where basic information such as knowing whether or not you have made weight is communicated.

Of course, it was Heather’s responsibility to ensure she made weight, but Mazulli’s excuses are laughable at best. The idea that he took Heather’s silence as a diagnosis that she was unable to continue cutting weight is completely ridiculous. In the end, this is another example of unfortunate but amusing incompetence at the regulatory level. All thing’s considered, we are lucky that the stakes were only part of Heather’s purse. Eventually the commissions could cost a fighter his/her life or career with incompetence concerning weight-cuts.

After their MMA fight at Bellator 194, Heather and Ana will compete in a boxing match against each other on a date and location to be determined.
