How Important Is Winning The Olympia Really?

The most coveted title in bodybuilding.

It’s the title that every bodybuilder covets. The title of Olympia champion is more than just a nice moniker. It’s a title that represents who is the best in the world in their chosen category. It’s a true honor to be an Olympia champion and for as long as the winner lives and beyond they will be known as being a champion who was able to reign supreme at one point in the lives. But what about all those who haven’t won an Olympia? Are all their other wins meaningless?

The short answer is no, but that doesn’t answer the entire question. In fact, it’s only an opening salvo. While winning the Olympia is the goal for most everyone who competes professionally, you have to imagine that all the other men and women that compete have to be doing so for a reason. Kevin Levrone mentioned what he felt about not winning an Olympia (LINK) and it was pretty eye opening. There are so many other competitions out there to be won that even if a bodybuilder doesn’t win at the Olympia they will have a host of other experiences to to recall and cherish, wins they would perhaps have never gotten if they won the big show.

Yes, winning the Olympia will always be the ultimate goal for every bodybuilder, but, because their chances of actually obtaining victory is pretty slim, these competitive athletes must find a silver lining. For some it will be the fact that they get to do what they love for a living. For others it can lead them to even bigger opportunities, just look at Lou Ferrigno if you have any questions about that. Winning the Olympia may not be everything, but it is the driving force that brings about greatness.

  • Winning the mr olympia is the most important thing in bodybuilding your name will be written in history forever and you join a very exclusive club, some bodybuilders try to win it fail and become bitter with a sour grape mentality, saying its not a big deal its fixed, its politics and all kind of bullshit excuses to make themselves feel better.

    • BULLSHIT... Since he has been Champ, no one has come close except for 2015 where Roden couldn't finish the job.. Can Phil be dethroned? Yes.. But Ramy has to nail it completely at the prejudging along with Cedric..

  • I thought it was the biggest deal for so many years. Until I saw how Kai exploded since he stopped doing the Olympia.

  • Bubble gut Phil shouldn’t have won Ramy was at his best Phil heath is a joke and is destroying the game with his horrible gut

    • The same dumb old judges oick phil heath. He is blue eyed boy for them. Ronnie was best for his size and phil size is a big joke

    • And you think Ramy’s was any better?? Almost all of them have large guts. It’s a matter of them controlling their breathing. I say the same thing all the top coaches (that also had phil winning) say. Go to the contest and get close to the stage. Pics don’t tell half the story. I was a huge jay fan. When I saw phil win his first O, I was 6th row. Phils muscles pop like nobody else’s on stage. I don’t dislike phil but I actually want someone else to win. He still deserved to win. The ONLY person someone can make a case for in this years O is willian Bonac. I think he should have been 2nd. But we are all opinionated in this game so it is what it is

    • Ronnie Walker to be honest bro I️ don’t think today’s bodybuilders are great, the classic physique guys have the best aesthetic look Calum Von Moger is what today’s guys should look
      Like

  • I guess they asking this question now that Kai Greene has basically told them to fk off and has landed a smaller role on Stranger Things

  • Getting the best sponsorship is the most important. Some bodybuilders who never won the Olympia made more money than bodybuilders who won the Olympia.

  • Men’s open us boring without Wolf, Kai, Branch, Dallas, etc. And they should’ve given it to Bonac.

  • Winning the Olympia should only be done once. Then again to defend the title a person shouldn't be allowed to win 7 8 or 9 times.

    • Then how can u be judged to be the best. Lol. You could have previous winners looking the bollocks but having other people winning looking inferior. It's about being the best.

    • And also make sure that judges rotate EVERY YEAR. No three judges should be the on the same panel on any consecutive years, because guess what happens??? The same guy wins, even when a million people watching say otherwise.
