How Important Is Winning The Olympia Really?

The most coveted title in bodybuilding.

It’s the title that every bodybuilder covets. The title of Olympia champion is more than just a nice moniker. It’s a title that represents who is the best in the world in their chosen category. It’s a true honor to be an Olympia champion and for as long as the winner lives and beyond they will be known as being a champion who was able to reign supreme at one point in the lives. But what about all those who haven’t won an Olympia? Are all their other wins meaningless?

The short answer is no, but that doesn’t answer the entire question. In fact, it’s only an opening salvo. While winning the Olympia is the goal for most everyone who competes professionally, you have to imagine that all the other men and women that compete have to be doing so for a reason. Kevin Levrone mentioned what he felt about not winning an Olympia (LINK) and it was pretty eye opening. There are so many other competitions out there to be won that even if a bodybuilder doesn’t win at the Olympia they will have a host of other experiences to to recall and cherish, wins they would perhaps have never gotten if they won the big show.

Yes, winning the Olympia will always be the ultimate goal for every bodybuilder, but, because their chances of actually obtaining victory is pretty slim, these competitive athletes must find a silver lining. For some it will be the fact that they get to do what they love for a living. For others it can lead them to even bigger opportunities, just look at Lou Ferrigno if you have any questions about that. Winning the Olympia may not be everything, but it is the driving force that brings about greatness.
