Fresh Out Of Surgery, Tony Ferguson Sounds Off On Al Iaquinta Who Fires Back

Tony Ferguson and Al Iaquinta trash talk on social media.

Tony Ferguson was supposed to face Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 to decide the undisputed Lightweight championship of the world. Unfortunately, he was forced to withdraw from the fight with a knee injury sustained during a media event. Instead, Khabib won the title in a dominating performance against Lightweight contender Al Iaquinta.

After the fight, Tony took to twitter to express his disdain for Iaquinta and frustration at his own situation. Tony had been interim Lightweight champion, and that belt was stripped when he was forced to withdrawal. A similar situation occurred to current Middleweight champion Robert Whittaker last year, but he retained his then-interim belt.

Ferguson is expected to be out of competition for 6-to-9 months, recovering from a detached LCL.

It’s unclear if Ferguson will be granted a title shot immediately upon return, but he may just be setting himself up for a fight with Al Iaquinta, who likely will have a change to get another win to his name in the meantime. We wish Tony a quick and complete recovery!
