SPECULATION: IS WOMEN’S PHYSIQUE GETTING SLOWLY CUT FROM THE IFBB?

Generation Iron Women's Physique Cut From IFBB

Women’s Physique division appears notably absent in early promos.

As time moves forward people are accustomed to seeing a changing of the guard. Whether it’s technology, sports, or arts we’re constantly seeing things shift and evolve as the future becomes the present. At times these changes can be truly impressive and elevate a particular subject, discipline, or item to new heights. Other times it could mean complete destruction and obliteration. In the world of bodybuilding and fitness it appears that women’s bodybuilding and physique could be subject to the obliteration.

Women’s bodybuilding has been pretty much wiped out from all the major competitions which left women’s physique, figure, and bikini in it’s wake. Or at least it has for a time. With the New York Pro months away we could be seeing the first signs that the women’s physique category could be next on the chopping block. The first advertisement for the New York has already become visible and it seems like women’s physique is nowhere to be found. Take a look at the poster below as well as the opinion of the Instagram channel this_is_bodybuilding on this turn of events.

Ok. I have to say that I am a little bit FURIOUS right now. I love the New York Pro. I will ALWAYS go to the New York Pro. I have for the last 4 years and I will 100% be there this year. But I will be angry. I was SO excited to see all my favorite NY Bodybuilding brothers on stage once again! I love cheering for my hometown boys like @shaunclarida, @maxx_charles, the retuning @ifbbjondelarosa and the CHAMPS @juandieselmorel and @guycisternino (technically a Jersey Boy, but so was I originally, so it’s all good in the hood). I was SO excited that I will once again be able to see one of the all time greats @mrolympia08 compete!! He’s amazing!!! I was SO excited to see one of the early IFBB Classic Physique competitions too!!! BUT…. NOT at the expense of seeing the Women’s Physique Division!!! THAT makes me FURIOUS! Really?!? It makes no sense!! Want to eliminate a division? If you MUST Elamite anything, eliminate MEN’S Physique! Not WOMEN’S!!! Women’s Bodybuilding has been all but eliminated from every major IFBB stage. Now THIS?!? Really?!? I am quite frankly perplexed that THIS promoter in PARTICULAR would be DOING AWAY WITH WOMAN WITH MUSCLE!!!! What’s the message being sent here?!? I am seriously curious! I have seen the amazing @julesfit10 win 3 New York Pro WPD Championships. They were 3 of the most thrilling moments of my NY Pro memories! And nothing against Men’s Physique. But it just seems that if you’re adding a new MEN’S division, you don’t eliminate a WOMEN’S division…if a division MUST be eliminated! I’m sorry. It’s late. I’m tired. Maybe I’M the one not making sense here. Or maybe this is complete bullshit. #SaveWomensPhysique #SaveWPD #TheModernFemaleBodybuilding #ClassicWomensPhysique #ClassicWomensBodybuilding #Bodybuilder #Bodybuilding #THISisBodybuilding

Now maybe this is jumping the gun – maybe women’s physique will end up being at the New York Pro… but if it isn’t, well, this is just another notch leading towards the downfall of female bodybuilding. Sure, the bikini and figure divisions are doing great – but the IFBB seems to be making an active decision to remove any sort of “masculine” muscle from female competitions. Of course, this is a more complicated issue than it sounds. If there aren’t enough competitors entering these divisions… it’s hard for the IFBB to pony up enough money to keep them running. But to completely remove support for these divisions all together discourages women from trying to attain these physiques. Instead of welcoming them we are telling the world that these body types just don’t belong.

In the end, could this be a simple misunderstanding or is the IFBB really considering eliminating women’s physique? Let us know what you think in the comments and forums. Also, be sure to follow Generation Iron on Facebook and Twitter.
