Body Dysmorphia defense?

Bodybuilder and special constable, Ceri Ann Parry, 36, sold Mephedrone to gym-goers. This week, her apparent struggle with body dysmorphia garnered sympathy from the judge and helped her avoid jail time.

Parry was working as a volunteer constable with the British Transport Police and had applied to work as a police officer in London, when she was subject to a police stop in 2016 which revealed a burner phone and small quantity of methadone (a class B drug) in her car.

Afterwards, police tracked Parry to her sister’s house where, in a garden shed safe, was around 750 grams of methadone derivative, worth around 7,000 Euro.

Parry was dealing methadone to gym-goers gym users in Birmingham and also offered ketamine, according to court hearing.

Mephedrone is a stimulant, often used as a party drug.

Parry was convicted by a jury of two counts of possessing Class B drugs with intent to supply and two counts of offering to supply Class B drugs.

According to Daily Mail, presiding Judge Rajeev Shetty declared:

“It’s possible drugs were being used by the people at the gym, I’m also sure other people were using them recreationally.”

“I have a lot of sympathy in regards to what has happened to you. You gave evidence of your obesity, once upon a time. You struggled with your weight for a number of years. This was the subject of emotional abuse by a partner who bullied you.”

He said that the disorder lead to Parry’s crimes.

“I completely accept you suffer from something approaching body dysmorphia.A nice car and the image of being well to do were part of the deception that you were selling yourself into. I’m certain you started selling drugs to people inside and outside the gym in Birmingham to keep up this image.”

Parry is convicted of two counts of possession of class B drugs with intent to supply and two counts of offering to supply class B drugs.

She was given an 18 month sentence suspended for two years and ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work.

Parry will also be subject to a tagged curfew for eight months and has resigned.
