Josh Gordon was placed on injury reserve this Wednesday after sustaining a serious knee injury.
ESPN’s Field Yates reported earlier this afternoon that Josh Gordon of the New England Patriots was being placed on injury reserve. Gordon injured his knee during the Patriots Week 6 game against the New York Giants after tackling linebacker Markus Golden. Gordon was unable to play in the following game against the Jets before the announcement was made.
This is a tough break for Gordon, who was only recently reinstated into the NFL. Gordon was suspended from the sport during the 2014, 2015, and 2016 seasons, returning briefly in 2017 before being suspended once again in 2018. This injury has effectively ended his 2019 season, meaning Gordon has at this point spent almost half a decade of his time as an athlete off the field. Since offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn is also on injury reserve this season and expected to be called back to play, it seems highly unlikely that Gordon will be playing a full season with the Patriots this year. Since Gordon’s contract is set to expire he could still stage a comeback as a free agent in the upcoming season.
Josh Gordon played college football at Baylor University and was first drafted into the NFL in 2012 as wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns. In his 2013 season he was an All-Pro selection. He was traded to the Patriots during the 2019 draft as a fifth-round pick.
