That Time Johnnie Jackson Destroyed His Hamstring During A Deadlift

There’s a reason it’s called DEADlift.

What’s the one thing all bodybuilders wish to avoid? Too many sugary carbs? Yes that’s certainly one to avoid especially if it’s being consumed at the wrong time. Not getting enough rest and recovery? That’s certainly another issue that bodybuilders must face as it ensures they’re not going to get the kind of muscle growth that they desire. But even more than that, a bodybuilder wants to avoid injury like the plague. In order to do that you must have excellent form, warm up and cool down correctly, and avoid ego lifting. For a bodybuilder who also powerlifts however, avoiding such situations aren’t always possible.

Enter Johnnie O Jackson.

One of the strongest professional bodybuilders out there, Johnnie Jackson is not only an IFBB pro, but a professional powerlifter as well. Like Stan “The Rhino” Efferding, Jackson was a powerlifter who had a superior genetic make up that lent itself to bodybuilding. So rather than just remain a pro powerlifter, when bodybuilding became another possible endeavor to invest time in Jackson jumped head first into competing.

But at the end of the day powerlifting was Jackson’s bread and butter. Competing against some of the best in the world, Jackson would continuously pushed the limits of his strength in hopes of breaking records and winning high level powerlifitng competitions. Unfortunately for Jackson the reality of powerlifting is that in order to break records and win meets, ego lifting goes hand in hand. As such Jackson has pushed himself to lift numbers that may have been slightly above his capability. Because of that, he’s been injured a number of times while trying to do the mother of all lifts, the deadlift. There’s a reason people fear the deadlift. The damage that it can cause to even the most seasoned lifter can be truly alarming. Check out the video below to get the gist.
