Lou Ferrigno Talks Against Steroids

The Hulk Smashes On Drugs.

If you’re a fan of bodybuilding then there’s no way you haven’t heard the name Lou Ferrigno. Heck, if you’re a fan of comic books then you’ve no doubt heard the name. Ferrigno was a bodybuilder at the height of his powers in the 1970’s as evidenced in the classic bodybuilding flick Pumping Iron. He was Arnold Schwarzenegger’s chief rival and a man that could have dominated the bodybuilding scene if he hadn’t taken the role as The Incredible Hulk years back.

Nevertheless, Lou is considered a staple in the fitness world and a well respected ambassador of the sport of bodybuilding. In the years since retiring from bodybuilding Ferrigno has used his acquired stardom for a number of endeavors including promoting bodybuilding competitions, running a fitness website, as well as remaining in acting. Even years after the events of the 1975 Mr. Olympia competition it would seem that Ferrigno and Schwarzenegger are still going head to head in their ambitious pursuits post bodybuilding.

After the success of the film, pro bodybuilding had garnered a great deal of attention and had become extremely popular in the late 70’s and into the 80’s. During that time Ferrigno had already ventured into acting yet he still remained a staple in the bodybuilding community. The popularity he attained after starring in Pumping Iron led to crossover success. With that success he gained the opportunity to speak on the sport he once competed in and loved as well as the hot button subjects that come with the territory.

During a 1988 interview, Lou Ferrigno went on the record about his thoughts of the state of bodybuilding, why he considers it the safest sport in the world and his opinions on steroids, specifically his past usage and how it’s effecting the sport.
