TONEY FREEMAN JOINS LEE THOMPSON’S NSPIRE. COULD MORE IFBB PROS FOLLOW?

Generation Iron Toney Freeman Joins Nspire

NSL gets it’s first major athlete.

Every bodybuilder who looks to compete as a professional more than likely views the IFBB as the cream of the crop. The IFBB sports some of bodybuilding’s greatest champions such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lee Haney, Dorian Yates, and Ronnie Coleman. But the NSL (Nspire Sports League) is looking to make a name for itself and may have received it’s biggest acquisition to date.

You may remember the NSL (formally known as NPC Global) for all of the controversy revolved around it’s inception – where former NPC and IFBB member Lee Thompson essentially attacked the IFBB for corruption and lack of transparency… then went his own way to create his very own bodybuilding league. Things have been pretty quiet since then with the NSL slowly setting up and putting on bodybuilding events. But just this weekend things started to shake up a bit.

Toney “The X-man” Freeman has officially left the IFBB for the NSL. This is one of the first major names to truly shift over into the new bodybuilding league giving some new credibility to the NSL.

The NSL took to Instagram to report the big news to the community. Check it out below:

The IFBB has made itself very clear that they have no interest in the NSL or the “credentials” that athletes gain from winning NSL competitions. So to some – Toney Freeman’s move might be seen as crossing the line in terms of loyalty. Or this could be the first brave step that turns some heads and eventually leads to more conversions.

With the acquisition of Freeman could we begin to see more of the IFBB’s athletes jump ship to the NSL or is this simply just an isolated incident? Toney Freeman is taking a huge chance by leaving the far more established IFBB, but only time will tell if this is best decision “The X-Man” has ever made or if this is all just a huge mistake.

But if we’re being honest – with major players that bring in the fans (and money) like Phil Heath, Kai Greene, and Shawn Rhoden having a successful home at the IFBB… why would they ever really move to a brand new league? The reality is that the Nspire Sports League will need to rely on brand new young talent that truly blows minds within the NSL. There’s no way that Phil Heath will move to the NSL… but if the NSL can cultivate a new version of Phil Heath – that will turn heads. It’s the long game but one that will probably lead to greater success for Nspire.

For now let’s see what Toney Freeman can do in this new league.
