Bodybuilding is a tough sport to be apart of. You have to follow a strict diet, ensure that you’re reaching hypertrophy with every workout, and sacrifice a ton of social time in the hopes of gaining even one pound of muscle. For the men competing in the open weight division the pressure is always on to present a new and improved package every time they hit the stage. It’s not enough to show up on par with how you looked last season. You must show that you’ve made some growth, especially when challenging the best in the world. It’s a lesson that Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elssbiay had to learn the hard way.

At last year’s Olympia competition, Big Ramy was massive, the biggest man to ever compete on a pro stage in fact. He was breaking records and looking dwarfing the opposition. The only problem was that he held onto a bit more water than he anticipated. Because of that he had to settle for taking the fifth place spot at the most prestigious bodybuilding show of the year. You can break records and gain as much muscle mass as you want, but sometimes that simply isn’t enough to win on the big stage.

Now that Big Ramy has broken into the top five, it’s safe to say that he’s developed a taste for being at the top and isn’t likely to let up now. During this off season it seems that Big Ramy has been reinvigorated and is looking to comeback better than ever at the 2016 Olympia. If his training is any consideration, the Egyptian is on fire and ready to take out all opposition.
