Hafthor Bjornsson is making a return to powerlifting.

It appears that Hafthor Bjornsson is making his return to powerlifting this December. It appears that the 2018 World’s Strongest Man broke the news in a recent video posted to his YouTube channel.

Life often moves in cycles. While we may find ourselves exploring other ventures, we often times return to what we know best. It can’t be denied that humans are creatures of habit and we like to remain in our comfort zones. Every once and awhile we have to switch things up and get some new experiences to appreciate the what has come before. It appears that Hafthor Bjornsson is in the midst of such a cycle. The strength athlete is choosing to return to his bread and butter and once again venture into the world of powerlifting.

After training and competing in boxing for the last few years, Hafthor Bjornsson has decided to hang up his gloves and return to what he does best. “The Mountain” has chosen to make a return to powerlifting this December.

In a recent YouTube video Hafthor Bjornsson spoke on a number of subjects including his upcoming powerlifting competition. The strongman discussed his boxing training and how it differed from his approach to strength training.

“In boxing there is no f***ing rest… Strongman and strength sports are completely different… The stronger you get, the more rest you need. My coach wants me to rest eight minutes betweens sets and I even find it hard to do so.”

That’s a fact; Boxing and combat sports conditioning is unlike anything else. You have to push your body to the limit in order to have the cardio to go multiple rounds in a boxing match. This means taxing your lungs and pushing your cardio to places that aren’t typically tested in strength training.

A Return to Strength Sports

The 2018 World’s Strongest Man also spoke on his upcoming return to competitive powerlifting. Hafthor Bjornsson spoke on his return and gave the date of the competition.

“The big announcement is, I’m competing again… I’m going to compete in powerlifting again. December 3rd is the day that I’m gonna come back and compete in powerlifting. See how my body reacts to all the training.”

What do you think of Hafthor Bjornsson making a return to competitive powerlifting?
