Rich gets headlines again… but is it getting blown out of proportion?

These days it seems that feuds are more prevalent than ever. Whether it’s for added buzz or a publicity stunt, members of the fitness industry constantly seem to be bumping heads and it’s made for some pretty entertaining and cringe worthy occurrences in the past few years. Internet beefs have been springing up all over the place lately. If you thought the beef between Phil Heath and Kai Greene then you haven’t seen the bad blood between Rich Piana and Jason Genova.

Not many people may be aware of this, but apparently Genova, an avid bodybuilding fan, amateur competitor, sparked the beef with Rich when he took to his social media and stated to his followers that an “Order 66” should be issued on Piana. Suffice it to say, Piana didn’t take too kindly to the statement.

Genova is an individual who is handicapped yet has garnered a huge social media following and is more than competent when it comes to conducting himself as a bodybuilder. Yet what happened during his recent run in with Rich Piana may have crossed the line.

When Piana and Genova came face to face at a recent meet and greet event, the two decided to settle their beef in a pretty unorthodox manner. Take a look at the video below.

Now many could look at this video as harmless, but really Piana may have grossly overstepped his bounds in this showing. To settle the feud in such a childish and violent manner particularly against an individual with a mental ailment shows just how immature Piana truly is. There were different ways for Piana to handle the situation: have a private conversation, discuss the situation with Genova like a man. Instead he chose to slap Jason a repeated number of times in the hopes that he’d show his superiority, but really it’s only helped Piana lower his own stock?

The 100% free app is pretty bad a$$, but one of the coolest features is the personalized wake up alarms you can set. Choose from  over 25 motivational alarm tones personally set by the “The Rock” himself. So tomorrow you could be waking up to the rock telling you to get your “candy a$$” out of bed, now that’s inspiration for you.  It also features goal setting, where you place your goals on the interweb and the rock personally shouts you out when you reach them.

Probably the best and worst thing about the clock app is that there’s NO snooze button. Life pasts you by one second at a time, and Rocky Johnson isn’t going to let you miss a minute.

Ask any good storyteller and they’ll tell you that the meat and potatoes of any captivating story is that it has to be primal. It has to reach the audience on a level so deep it’s undeniable. The desire to survive in Mel Gibson’s “Apocalypto”, the desire for freedom in “Hunger”, the need for friendship in “Midnight Cowboy”, and the need for…well…sex.

So why are we writing about this? Whether they’d admit it or not a lot of people get into this sport initially to impress the ladies. And while we’re not saying a stiff six pack and rope like arms won’t get you noticed, in order to “take it on home,” you’re going to have to do a lot more than smile and nod. This is where preselection comes into play.

Preselection is the assumption that because someone is in a position of value (i.e. CEO, movie star, or just a stud with the ladies) there’s got to be something interesting in this person. He must have good genes or some other trait – why would everybody else want to be around him? It’s the safe bet. It’s hardwired. It’s primal.

For better or worse, this is how many women choose a sexual partner, and as many people find out the morning after – the man doesn’t always live up to the mystique.

Still don’t believe us? Let’s use everybody’s first pet, the “goldfish,” as an example. Male goldfish all look the same. Females need to mate. So, who does the female choose? The male goldfish that other female goldfish are mating with. Think about it. If you had a chance to either get Nike training pants, or an off brand for the same price. The off brand could be better, but you’re going to go with Nike, right? Exactly.

This is an especially frustrating reveal for guys who lift heavy. They often feel they can just “wow” the significant other and then drag her back to his cave. While definitely possible – this isn’t always the case.

A better strategy would be to rig the system and make yourself preselected. Go to a place where “everybody knows your name”. That’s right, frequent the same spots and get popular with the staff. Before you know it you’ll be giving the wink and the gun to the bouncers, hugging all the wait staff, and getting comp drinks from the bartenders. You’re welcome. Another strategy is to travel with an entourage already in tow. Now that you’ve made a couple of new friends at your new bar introduce them to your old friends. Dress nicely and show up with an entourage of guys AND GIRLS and focus on having a good time, that’s it.

Now I’ve heard of extreme cases. Guys renting spaces and putting art on the wall to pretend they have their own gallery – but you don’t have to go that far. Start with the simple suggestions we’ve given in the article above and then tailor it to your needs. As for your massive gainz? Well that’s icing on the cake, just ask the ladies.

STEFAN STRUVE: “MY BODY JUST QUIT ON ME”

Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve is a tall order for any heavyweight. At 7’0″ with an 84.5″ reach, the dutchman fighting out of the Blackzillians in Boca Raton Florida literally towers over his opponents. However, if there’s one factor that is the great equalizer for all men, it’s health, and Stephan Struve has had his fair share of problems. After a knockout loss to Mark Hunt in 2013, Stephan Struve knew something had to change, he knew something had to be done about his recurring heart condition.

“Everything kind of fell apart for me after the fight with Stipe [Miocic]. In my opinion, the fight with Mark [Hunt], I lost that one because my heart condition was at its worst at that point and I was pretty sick before the fight. That together just led to my body quitting on me in the fight.”

Stefan Struve suffers from an enlarged heart  and bicuspid aortic valve. After a year lay off he was set for his return to the cage against Matt Mitrione at UFC 175, but after blacking out backstage, the fight was called off. Nearly 2 years later, he’s back, and ready to take on the ageing but still very dangerous Antonio Silva.

“To be honest with you guys that was the biggest hurdle I had to overcome in my training. I never really worry about fighting. But in the fight with Alistair Overeem, not so much in the fight with Noguiera because I got going, but also in the fight with Rosholt I had trouble finding my rhythm and I was constantly thinking about ‘should I hit the gas now or should I just wait until the second round? You don’t want to get tired like that fight with Hunt where your body gave up.’ I never really got super tired in that fight because my conditioning is good and we always make sure I’m in tip top shape. But that fight with Hunt, my body just quit on me and I had to hang on for like ten minutes and wasn’t able to do much and he was just battering me, beating me.

“How my body felt that fight was such a scary experience. That was the biggest hurdle to overcome, to be able to hit the gas in the fight and start hunting immediately and that’s exactly what I did this training camp so that makes me feel really good.”

With losses in 3 of his last 4 fights, all the feel good stories in the world won’t get him too far in the UFC. This makes his upcoming bout this Saturday at UFC Fight Night 87 Rotterdam even more important as it could be the make or break of his career. So what’s his team going to do differently? Aggression.

“One of the things my coaches really wanted to see more in this training camp was aggression. I was doing my thing the last couple training camps but when I would have a guy up against the fence or in a bad spot I would take my foot off the pedal and let them get back into the sparring or the fight, whatever you want to call it. And this time they were like, ‘if you get someone up against the cage we want to see you finish it…We want to see more aggression we want to see you be focused on finishing the fight.’ I dropped a ton of guys in sparring and it’s definitely going to pay off this Sunday. It’s going to translate perfectly to the fight in my opinion.”

If Struve could pull off the victory Saturday night, he could be right back in the mix. With the heavyweight picture being pretty much a toss up, a year from now we could be talking about Struve  fighting for the title. Stranger things have happened. Catch the full interview below:

A good training partner is going to motivate you to push through your workout and make the kind of meaningful gains you’re in search of. A bodybuilding partner who already has impressive form, a great physique, and a willingness to impart their knowledge is truly an unparalleled companion to have on the journey for greater muscle.

For many amateurs and dabblers in the endeavor having a good training partner could easily translate over to having someone who is simply committed to actually getting into the gym with consistency. A training partner who can’t make it to the gym is utterly useless. But that’s why you need a partner who is just as motivated as you are when it comes to making positive progress on your physique.

When it comes to the pros they require training partners on an entirely different level. Bradley Martyn trains hard in the gym and in order to rise to the next level he’s partnered up with Dana Linn Bailey, her husband Rob, and none other than the Predator Kai Greene.

Can Justin Compton still live up to his full potential in 2016?

Bodybuilding has and always will be a game of time. Think on that for a minute. You can’t hit the weights for one week and expect to see the kind of results the professionals are able to pull off. The truth of the matter is that if you want to grow into a talented bodybuilder with all the massive muscle and detailed shred that you can handle then that means you have to be ready to travel the long and arduous road of constant improvement. It may seem disheartening to some, but to those who are committed to the cause it’s simply a way of life.

When we consider a prospect like Justin Compton, even he needs time to grow before he can topple the best in the world. Compton certainly has the kind of size to put the other veterans on notice. What the young bodybuilder is missing however is muscle maturity. It’s easy to forget that Compton has not yet seen his 30th birthday, yet he has shared the stage with some of the best bodybuilders in the world even defeating a great deal of them to boot.

Many lost faith in Compton when he wasn’t able to crack the top 3 at the Arnold Classic this past March. Fans believed that his extended off season would have superior results, however the return of Kai Greene, the emergence of Josh Lenartowicz, and Cedric McMillan’s superior physical form was too much for the young Compton to overcome. But that doesn’t mean that Justin doesn’t have a ton of upside. The young bodybuilder still has time to improve his physique and will likely do so in the years to come.

His physique has already grown so much even in his relatively young age. A guest posing over the weekend demonstrated once again just how massive his frame is. But the question still remains – will he become the powerhouse threat everyone predicted in 2016? Or will he need a few more years to bake in the oven before he starts collecting checks? HARRY POTTER STAR “GREGORY GOYLE”, WINS FIRST MMA FIGHT

Hogwarts just got a lot tougher

Josh Herdman, the Harry Potter star better known as “Gregory Goyle,” recently made news for something other than being a henchmen for the villainous Draco Malfoy. The 28 year old Englishman won his first fight at Rise of Champions (ROC) via unanimous decision last week on their April 23rd card. https://youtu.be/VmaQv6WAeWs Herdman took on fellow newcomer Janusz Walachowski at the catchweight of 176, and after 3 – 3 minute rounds under the London based promotion he came out with the win. Josh Herman fights out of Pro Mai Martial Arts Academy in west London where he specializes in striking under Lee Aylet. While Herdman still considers himself an actor first, with a recent role in British independent film “Sink”, he did say he wouldn’t exactly scoff at a UFC contract. Right now he’s content fighting under the Rise of Champions organization and is aiming to return on their November card. Stay tuned for more breaking MMA news.
