IRON CINEMA: LEE HANEY PROVES HE’S GREATER THAN RONNIE COLEMAN

Lee Haney weights in on the battle of 8x Mr. Olympia champions.

Every week, Iron Cinema will connect you with Generation Iron director Vlad Yudin. Giving you unprecedented inside access to the creative process behind his the Generation Iron Fitness Network. Get a first hand look at the entire journey of taking Vlad’s creative ideas to the big screen – from stories on set of films like Generation Iron and CT Fletcher all the way to exclusive behind-the-scene looks at our newest GI news and films. This week Vlad talks with 8x undefeated Olympia champion Lee Haney about his legacy and why the bodybuilding world seems to place Ronnie Coleman above Haney.

One of the things I find the most fascinating about Lee Haney is that modern bodybuilding fans rarely talk about him with the same excitement and esteem as they do Ronnie Coleman. Both are 8x Mr. Olympia champions. In fact, Lee Haney holds the distinction over Ronnie that he’s never been defeated. Instead he retired on a high note and when he knew he was ready. In my latest Iron Cinema interview, I sit down with Lee Haney himself to pick his brain about his bodybuilding career. Watch it above.

CT FLETCHER’S TOP 10 MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES

Generation Iron CT Fletcher quotes

Generation Iron CT Fletcher quotes

CT Fletcher’s many words of wisdom.

CT Fletcher is a man of few words…is what we’d say if this were a parallel universe. It seems like the man can’t go a minute without saying something quotable. CT’s philosophy on lifting is unique to say the least. There’s no questioning it, the man lives and breathes lifting heavy ass weights. Hell, just take a look at the guy. You don’t get into that kind of shape by just having a passing interest in hitting the gym.

Everyone who hits the gym and looks to make gains has to have a philosophy, a mentality that gives them the perfect mindset to pull off some major lifts. CT’s “I don’t give a damn” attitude about weightlifting makes the man push past his limits. Without further ado, here are some of CT Fletcher’s most quotable lines…
.

1) “Its still yo motha fu*kin set!”  aka ISYMFS

2) “This is what we do Bulo! You ain’t no motha fu*kin ice skater… you ain’t no tennis player… we lift weight God damn it!”

3) “Don’t make no difference what it is! I’ma pick the sh*t up! How much it is! I’ma pick the sh*t up! That’s what I do… I pick sh*t up!”

4) (Speaking to his bicep) “I command you to grow! You must grow! I’m the boss motha fu*ka! I tell you what to do you don’t tell me! I told your ass to grow… GROW!”

.

5) “May I have more please? May I have more pain? May I have more torture? Because I know this sh!t is gonna make me grow!”

6) “You must become obsessed with obtaining what you are trying to get, you have to be obsessed with it.”

7) “I’m trying to call on all the Gods of power. Hercules, Apollo, Atlas, come on motha fu*kas! I need your ass!”

8) “CT, how do you manage to keep interested after 31 years? Easy… just like smoking… IM ADDICTED TO THIS SH!T!”

9) “I don’t know how many reps… I’ma do the motha fu*ka till i cant do it no motha fu*kin more!”

10) “For competition, always loop the thumbs around the bar and squeeeeeeeze, squeeze that bar like your trying to snap that motha fu*ka in two!”
.

LEE PRIEST RESPONDS TO “VEGAN GAINS” AGGRESSIVE COMMENTS

Lee Priest retaliates online.

The fitness community is both considerably large as well as relatively close knit. If there’s big news, a new work out method, a new nutrition plan, you can bet your ass that it’ll spread like wild fire throughout the industry. The internet has only grown the fitness to near astronomical levels with different personalities gaining popularity and gaining tremendous followings. From BroScience’s Dom Morretti to the Hodge twins, to CT Fletcher, there are have been a great number of individuals that have gained a ton of notoriety in the fitness industry. Then there are those who have already proved themselves through the glory of professional competition.

Lee Priest is one of the more controversial figures in the fitness and bodybuilding community. He’s also praised for being one the most underrated bodybuilders of all time. Priest had tremendous musculature, a shredded physique, and the all the attitude in the world to back it all up. At times Priest’s outspoken nature has gotten him into difficult situation which eventually led to his falling out with the IFBB. Despite that, Priest still maintains a huge following and still has tons of opinions to share about bodybuilding as well as the trolls that fester the internet.

Recently Richard Burgess of Vegan Gains fame called out the Australian bodybuilder after Priest made comments about veganism and it’s relation, or lack there of, to bodybuilding. Burgess’ response video was certainly filled with it’s fair share of vitriolic statements and Priest didn’t take the comments lying down. Priest has never been known to back down from a verbal challenge and it seems that Burgess has made himself a target. Take a look at what Lee Priest had to say.

Where does Lee Priest rank amongst the greatest bodybuilders of all time?

THE ROCK GOES FULL STRONGMAN AND LIFTS 2 MASSIVE REFRIGERATORS

Generation Iron The Rock Strongman Refrigerator

Generation Iron The Rock Strongman Refrigerator

“Whyyyyyy in the blue hell am I carrying two massive sub zeros on my back?”

There’s one thing we all know – The Rock is one of our favorite fitness celebrities on the planet. He brings bodybuilding mentality (and physique) to the masses in a really, really exciting way. It seems like every day The Rock is doing something amazing on the internet. Breaking new PR’s. Lifting iron like a beast… and now going full-on strongman by lifting two gigantic refrigerators. This man truly has no limits. Check out the image below:

The best part about all of this is the fact that it’s all for the BAYWATCH movie. Not Furious 7, not some new action packed serious movie, but instead a reboot of cheesy ol’ Baywatch. That’s how badass The Rock is. He’s always pushing the limits… even for a movie that might just be terrible. We’ll see.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT 85 BREAKDOWN: MARK HUNT VS FRANK MIR

hunt vs mir headerWhich heavyweight veteran will triumph?

It feels like just yesterday UFC 196 rocked all of our worlds with some of the biggest upsets in the sports history. The winners are celebrating a job well done while the losers are licking their wounds and chomping at the bit to get back to training and awaiting their next chance to enter the octagon and get a much needed victory. But as the shock wears off it’s time to look forward to the next UFC event. UFC Fight Night 85 will feature a main event showdown between former K-1 kickboxer Mark Hunt and former UFC heavyweight champion Frank MirHunt-Credit-Josh-Hedges-Zuffa It’s easy to claim that this is simply just a striker versus grappler match, and though that may be true for the most part, it doesn’t do the fighters justice. Both men have spent years working on the deficiencies in their respective games, meaning more jiujitsu and wrestling for Hunt and striking for Mir. Both men have improved their game and are dangerous in all areas. Mark Hunt has been able to improve his wrestling to a point where taking him down seems to be a futile option for grappling centric opposition. At this point your wrestling must really be on point if you’re hoping to get the kickboxer to the ground. Hunt has focused on more of a boxing approach to his game rather than a kicking centric game. This allows him to be considerably dangerous on the feet while still having the option to dig underhooks and thwart his opponent’s takedowns. He has to remain cautious though as over zealousness has seen him drop fights to both Fabricio Werdum and Stipe Miocic. Where Frank Mir is concerned his career seems to be on a bit of an upswing. He may have lost his most recent bout against Andre Arlovski in uneventful affair, but the two bouts before that, namely the Todd Duffee match, showcased Frank Mir’s improved striking. The problem with Mir however is a tendency to get a bit too wild in the striking exchanges which he’ll want to avoid against Hunt. Seeing as how he’s more of a grappling oriented fighter, and the fact that he’ll be the taller man in the cage, it would do Mir some good to use his kicking to his benefit rather than remaining in boxing range for extended periods of time. 8698725-750x340-1437163205 Unfortunately for both of these veterans only one man can leave the cage victorious and it’s looking very likely that it’ll be Hunt. Though older than Mir, Hunt appears to have more left in the tank and has been great at defending takedowns from fighters with a superior wrestling game. Look for Hunt to frustrate Mir on the feet, producing a KO in the third round. Who do you got in the UFC Fight Night 85 main event? Follow Generation Iron MMA on Facebook and Twitter. GI WORKOUT SONG OF THE WEEK 3/16/2016

Generation Iron Workout Song Action Bronson

Generation Iron Workout Song Action Bronson

Full on action.

The Arnold Classic provided some of the most eye opening moments in recent years. Kai Greene walked away the winner at the much anticipated event, but not without some controversy. While onlookers agreed that Greene had a great posing routine, many felt that Cedric McMillan had the superior physique. A major turning point in bodybuilding is occurring and in the weeks and months to come we’ll see how judging posing with more weight will effect proceedings.

.

The Arnold Classic Australia is set for this coming weekend and one has to wonder if Kai Greene can replicate his victory at the event down under. By now McMillan has sure to hear the critics and fans voice their opinions on the Arnold classic results and with a few modifications to his routine we could see a major upset at this weekend’s event.

With so much on the line for both bodybuilders, one thing is definitely certain: both men are motivated for victory and will have to bring the best versions of themselves to the competition. The motivation to be the best in the world is what drives these two athletes. For the average Joe maybe the title of best bodybuilder in the world is out of their grasp, but they can still be motivated to secure greatness of their own. Take a listen to the song of the week to get fired up in the gym and grasp your own bit of glory.

This Week’s Pick

Song: Time For Son (feat. Lil Fame)

UPDATE: SO IT LOOKS LIKE THAT INSANE PHIL HEATH IMAGE WAS PHOTOSHOPPED

Generation Iron Phil Heath Photoshop

Generation Iron Phil Heath Photoshop

He looked unstoppable… but it was also unreal. Literally.

The internet can truly be a source of some crazy occurrences. For a bodybuilder it can be truly trying as you hope to show off the best version of yourself to the fans. Bodybuilders are already unreal, larger than life figures that look like they’ve been ripped from the page of some comic book and made in the flesh. Their physiques are inhuman. They’re able to put on a tremendous amount of muscle while still keeping a tapered waist and low body fat percentages. It’s those exact ingredients that have made Phil Heath such a powerhouse champion.

[wptouch target=”mobile”][/wptouch]

.

But like mentioned above, the internet can be a truly strange place. So when news broke that the recent picture of Phil Heath at a guest posing competition were photoshopped, we all should have seen it coming. Though it could be a bit of a blackeye for the Olympia champion, Heath took to his Instagram to address the issue and clear things up.

All things considered, the Olympia champ took the criticism well enough and refuses to let the haters get inside his head. That being said, do you think it was a bit of a gaff to post up an altered picture on his Instagram page?

WILL THE UFC LOSE ANOTHER BIG NAME TO BELLATOR?

Rory Macdonald

Things are starting to get interesting

Rory Macdonald has been a martial artist’s martial artist for a long time. Starting at the tender age of 14, he’s been a true student of the sport. Not a man of many words, he’s been known as the “axe murder” as his cool and calm demeanor masks a history of violence, and in his case an extremely skilled violence. But in the error of Conor Mcgregor, even the most humble must speak out to get their seat at the table. In a recent interview on the MMA Hour, Macdonald discuss the end of his contract and cementing his financial future.

“I want to make the most money I can. I want to get paid for what I bring to table.” I’ve sacrificed a lot to get to the world title, I really sacrificed. I took a lot of chances, and I did a lot a favors for the UFC, and I don’t think it got returned. Now, it’s all about making money. So whoever wants to pay me the most, I’ll go.” https://youtu.be/e6b3EkzBIe4

Rory Macdonald is at the end of a six fight contract, with his last fight set against fellow canadian and lightweight superstar Steven “wonderboy” Thompson, at UFC Fight Night in Ottawa.  With contract negotiations virtually at a standstill and Bellator willing to roll out the red carpet for relevant (Ben Henderson) and not so relevant (Kimbo Slice) fighters, things could get interesting in the free agency market.

“We told them for the longest time, ‘If you guys don’t want to negotiate anymore, I’m willing to fight out the contract.’ I wasn’t trying to hold it up. I told them to either send a fight contract over or we get a new one going. I was always up for just fighting out the contract — I was good both ways.”

The above statements might sound like Rory MacDonald isn’t happy with the establishment but that wouldn’t be exactly true. Rory says there were no hard words “it’s business”, he made an offer and they refused. A new contract has yet to negotiated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-0KgeQTxoQ

“It’s not like we got into an argument or anything. It’s just business, that’s all it is.” MacDonald said. “My relationship with them is good, it’s healthy. I plan on promoting this fight and putting on a good show for them and honoring this contract. I have nothing bad about them to say. I’m disappointed they don’t agree on my value. “We weren’t too far apart when it really came down to it. But I felt that my offer was fair and I was going to stand my ground for what I feel like I was worth and what I brought to the table. They didn’t see it like that, and that’s okay. I’ll just try to make a dominant performance and really show my worth out there in my next fight and maybe after that we’ll come to a new agreement.”

While it would be a travesty for any fight fan to see Rory go, the addition to the (assumed) Bellator staff would be a good thing. With Dana White showing his a#* and acting like a true dictator, the competition between the two companies would make things fair and give fighters a voice. The more relevant fighters they can attain, the more up and coming fighters will see the company as a legit place to showcase their skills. Here’s to hoping.
