Throwback: Dorian Yates Does The Most Intense Calf Training Ever!

Throwback of Dorian Yates’ intense calf training.

Bodybuilding is all about manipulating the body to produce muscle. At least that’s the thought process for any amateur. For a professional bodybuilder it’s all about carving out every inch of the body, not just the chest, not just the back or the biceps, but every muscle group down to the must mundane. With that ideology in mind, building up the calves has always been a mission for bodybuilders at the highest levels. Arnold Schwarzenegger used to focus on building up his genetically weaker calves constantly. Fellow Olympia champion Dorian Yates did his best to do the same with his calf training.

Six time Olympia champion Dorian Yates has always been known for his intense training in the gym. Just like a fellow Olympia champion Ronnie Coleman, Dorian Yates constantly pushed himself in the gym, making sure most every session was intense. It’s that kind of mindset that led him to conquering the bodybuilding world and taking home the Sandow six times in a row.

Being the best at what you do requires a certain kind of inhuman work ethic and Dorian Yates possessed that single-minded drive for success. That means pushing himself to his limits even when he was building up smaller muscle groups like the calves. This throwback clip of Dorian Yates gives a glimpse into just how hard he trained.

What do you think of the intensity of Dorian Yates’ training?
