Arnold Schwarzenegger Talks Climate Change, Trump, And Presidency: “I Think I Could Have Won”

Would you have voted for Arnold Schwarzenegger for president?

Arnold Schwarzenegger is a man of many hats. He is a businessman, promoter, entrepreneur, celebrity, and actor. Now he’s adding ‘environmental activist’ to that already impressive list. In a piece with the Redbulletin, Arnold described his rise to success and passion for mother earth.

First came Arnold’s discovery of his personal passion- bodybuilding- at age 15. He began with pull ups on trees in his neighborhood and old pictures of Reg Park. When he arrived in America, Arnold pursued an education, took acting classes, and worked as a bricklayer while pursuing his dream.

“I came to the States in 1968. I felt that I had to come to America. This is the land of opportunity. There is no one trying to derail you. People are helping you. They were positive, even though they didn’t believe I could do all the things that I did.”

Arnold also discusseed the explosion of his career through the documentary “Pumping Iron” and all the setbacks he’s had to overcome including his divorce, a motorcycle accident, and political failures.

He said one of the most important practices of his rise was listening to experts:

“That’s why I got involved with the environment. One scientist after another would come into my office and tell me about the dangers of global warming, about the economic aspect, how many people die from pollution and how many children get asthma, what the dependence on certain energies means for national security. I listened to the experts.”

Arnold also shared some thoughts on the President:

“Regarding President Trump, the only thing I can say is: Too bad I don’t have the chance to run, because I was not born in America. I think I could have won. But now my interest is to be as supportive as possible to the president. Still, if he does things that are contrary to what we need to do, I will be the first one to speak out, especially when it comes to things that I am passionate about — like when he cuts $1.2 billion from after-school programs or wants to leave the Paris accord.

“Regarding the environment, I just wish Trump would copy me. He wouldn’t even have to thank me.”

Arnold’s laws for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in California took effect in 2012, and he believes that they are a perfect model for the rest of the country.

“I’m a fanatic about eco-friendly technology. I own four Hummers — one is biodiesel, one is hydrogen, which generates no pollution at all, and I’m planning on getting an electric engine installed in the third one. It will be the first Hummer with an electric engine.”
