Jake Wood & Dan Solomon Represent Bodybuilding World As Las Vegas Declares June 27 ‘Olympia Day’

Many major figures in the sport of bodybuilding were in Las Vegas to help celebrate ‘Olympia Day.’

It was announced back in November that the 2024 Olympia would return to Las Vegas to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first show. The event will take place from Oct. 10-13 at the Resorts World Las Vegas. The biggest bodybuilding show of the year is still months away but Las Vegas did not wait to celebrate.

On Thursday, Olympia owner Jake Wood and President Dan Solomon represented the bodybuilding community as June 27 was declared ‘Olympia Day’ in Las Vegas. They were presented with the honorary “Key to the Las Vegas Strip” while other major figures in bodybuilding watched the ceremony.

“Las Vegas declared yesterday “Olympia Day” to celebrate the powerful relationship Vegas has formed with the fitness industry’s most prestigious event.”

The 2024 Olympia Will Return To Las Vegas

In the early years of the show, the Olympia was taking place all over the world in multiple countries such as France, Germany, and Sweden, just to name a few. The Olympia moved to the United States full-time beginning in 1993. It has appeared in New York and Los Angeles but Las Vegas has been a primary location hosting the biggest fitness show of the year.

From 1999-2019, the Olympia was held in Las Vegas. It moved to Orlando for the following two years and has alternated locations since. Now, Las Vegas will be the host once again as the competition celebrates yet another milestone.

Solomon commented on the honor and what it means to the bodybuilding world:

“Receiving this honor from the Entertainment Capital of the World is beyond our wildest dreams. Joe Weider would be incredibly proud today.”

The league has attempted to persuade bodybuilders to compete more over the course of the year. It has done this by modifying the automatic qualification rule for 2024. The top three finishers in the Men’s Open division will receive qualification automatically. This goes down from theta five in previous years.

This means that, along with all former winners of the show, Derek Lunsford, Hadi Choopan, and Samson Dauda are already qualified for the 2024 Olympia. Lunsford became the 18th Mr. Olympia champion with his victory in 2023. Over the course of the year, other competitors have been working hard to punch their tickets to the biggest show of the year.

The celebration started early in Las Vegas and now, it will be celebrated annually in a city that is connected directly with Olympia history.
