TOP 6 BATTERED FACES IN MMA OF 2015

Generation Iron Rory Face

Generation Iron Rory Face

A face only a mangling could love

As fight fans we all love the sport. The athleticism, the mental toughness, the striving to be the best at your craft each and every day – the artistry if you will. But unlike most sports you’re directly trying to injury your opponent. Yeah don’t get me wrong there’s a point system but ultimately the goal is to inflict as much injury on your opponent as fast as you can without taking much damage in the process. While history is written by the victors, the warriors that come up short can definitely leave an indelible image on our psyches, inspiring a sense of awe – how much punishment can the human body take and keep on tickin? Below We’ve comprised a list of the 6 worst faces (in sometimes the best fights) of 2015 #6 Mark hunt - wost faces In the main event fight of UFC FIGHT NIGHT 65 held on May 12, of 2015, heavyweight Mark Hunt fell to Stipe Miocic in the 5th round via TKO due to a flurry of ground strikes. After the fight, Hunt had to go to the hospital after a 5 round beating many thought should have been stopped earlier. Though his face was broken his spirit was not as he took pictures with fans shortly after the bout. hunt-worst faces #5 ronda-rousey-plastic-surgery2-worst faces We don’t have to explain much on this one but in case you haven’t heard “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey was defeated via KO in the second round of her title bout against world renowned kickboxer Holly Holm. While the first round was a prequel to what seemed like the inevitable – the loss was made particularly poignant by the abrupt and vicious ending of this fight via head kick, Holly Holm style. Though her pride was hurt more than her face, just seeing the seemingly invincible champ in such a precarious position warrants a place on our top 5. Rousey headkick -worst faces #4 worst faces of 2015 The man with the horse shoe up his a** seemed to run out of luck. Okay, that statement was unfair but you do have to admit whenever in trouble Chris Weidman seems to always pull a rabbit out of his magic hat and find a way to win. Unfortunately for him middleweight champ Luke Rockhold brought an end to the voodoo and beat him with cold, hard, skills. In the UFC 194 bout Rockhold defeated weidman via TKO in the 4th round of their championship bought. While many thought is should have been stopped in the 3rd, this is the result. Rockhold vs Weidman #3 Robbie Lawler split lip -worst faces In probably the best fight of 2015 (up there with all time) Robbie Lawler defended his welterweight title against Rory Macdonald in a 5 round WAR. Though Robbie ended up getting the strap as you can see by the picture above he didn’t exactly come out unscathed. #2 rory Macdonald -worst faces You should’ve seen the other guy. Unfortunately for Rory “The Red King” Macdonald he was the other guy. In an effort so mighty he has cemented his name with the warrior gods. Rory Macdonald came up short in a war against the above Robbie Lawler. Even with a face full of blood and swollen tissue, the fight in this dogs eyes never faded for a second. Many claim to be willing to die for it, but few can actually live for it. #1 Penne-worst face Honestly had a hard time with #1 and #2 and I’m sure I’ll get sh#t for it but they’re pretty much interchangeable. In her UFC FIGHT NIGHT 69 in Berlin, Germany against Joanna Jedrzejckzyk, Jessica Penne took a beating that was hard to watch. She proceeded to get pummelled for 3 rounds until the bout was finally stopped. While Joanna retained her title you’ve got to give it up to Penne for the heart and mental toughness to hangin in there. Penne-worst face1

THE WOES OF WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

Generation Iron MMA Weight Management

Generation Iron MMA Weight Management

Weight cutting sucks, but if you’re gonna do it, do it right.

It’s something that all professional, and some amateurs, go through. The arduous task of having to maintain a manageable fighting weight. These days it seems like you can’t compete at a high level without facing that fact that you’ll have to fight at a weight that will ensure you victory. Once you understand that then you’ll be forced to understand the inescapable truth: weight cutting sucks. Now some guys have no problem getting down to their fighting weight. Genetics can determine whether or not someone can get down to 155 lbs from 180 lbs. Some guys are lucky and can just get that water weight off with no problems at all. Then there’s the guy who finds trouble losing 10 lbs much less 25. So what the hell can you do if this is you? Well praying may be the first step to take above all else. After you finish that then you’re going to have to stop feeling sorry for yourself and start watching what you eat. Just like bodybuilding and other high level competitive sports, your nutrition will be the key to seeing your results come to fruition. Unless you’re a genetic freak like Georges St. Pierre, the likelihood that you’ll be able to eat McDonalds and cut 20 plus pounds is highly unlikely. So put down the burgers and pizza and bite the bullet. We all hate doing it, but if you’re looking to compete then you better get your diet in check and focus on your macro nutrient intake. (Meanwhile all I can think about are cheeseburgers and a nice Sicilian slice. I can’t wait until I’m reunited with the quarter pounder!!) So how do you handle your weight management? WITNESS HAFTHOR THE MOUNTAIN’S UNBELIEVABLE TRANSFORMATION

Generation Iron Hafthor The Mountain Transformation

Generation Iron Hafthor The Mountain Transformation

From pebble to a mountain.

Everyone has to start somewhere. When bodybuilders or strength athletes choose to embark on a journey of discovery through muscle growth and physical change, the road does seem truly long indeed, especially in the beginning. Picking up your first dumbbell may feel as difficult as pulling a sword from a stone. But just like King Arthur did with Excalibur, that dumbbell signifies the beginning of something great, an adventure of self discovery that will have you pushing yourself to the limit in hopes of making a new and improved version of yourself.

Often times a fan will look on an athlete and admire them, perhaps even hoping to achieve the same physique as their hero. The funny thing about those athletes, bodybuilder or not, they all had to start somewhere, sometimes in positions that most people would have never even thought was possible. Many of the bodybuilders and strength athletes idolized today were either extremely skinny before picking up the weights or had a few more pounds on their frame than what fans are used to seeing. There’s no shame in their game. After all, they endeavored to make a change in themselves so judging them is the last thing that we should do. They should be praised for having the resolve to better themselves whether that be for aesthetic purposes or to compete in another athletic endeavor.

.

For many, Hafthor Bjornson is simply the man known as “The Mountain” from Game of Thrones, a mammoth man with the strength to back up all that size. Hafthor has broken many different strength records through the years and as his story continues has managed to garner much attention within the bodybuilding and weightlifting scene. But Hafthor wasn’t always the hulking beast he is today. Far from it in fact. Before becoming a strongman he was a basketball player of far less size and strength. To see the young man in the past makes his transformation all the more alarming. Check out the video below to witness Hafthor Bjornson’s transformation.

What do you think of Hathor’s transformation into the musclebound Mountain that he is today? Let us know in the comments and forums. Also, be sure to follow Generation Iron on Facebook and Twitter.

How to catch the judges’ eyes.

Everyone knows a large part of bodybuilding happens in the gym and in the kitchen. Training and diet are paramount to perfecting the perfect mass monster physique – but all of that work means nothing if you can’t be on point in the judges’ eyes. There’s a certain criteria that must be met and also a kind of intangible essence that is important when trying to stand out and stand tall among the competition.

That’s why Kai Greene dives head first with co-host Krystal Lavenne into how the pro judging system works and gives insider tips on how to maximize your potential and become a true stand out in front of the judges. Kai also answers another fan question – is there anything that Kai can’t physically do anymore because of his massive size? Check it all out in the latest episode above.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE JAB?

Georges St Pierre

Georges St PierreThe most underutilized tool in mixed martial arts today.

There seems to be this notion that in MMA the jab is useless or at least that’s how it seems. Many fighters these days don’t practice what they’re taught. In almost any striking based school or class, the first punch you’re ever taught to throw is the jab yet for some reason many fighters have abandoned this helpful tool that all the greatest combinations are born from. So why the hell have people forgotten about the jab? One thing that comes to mind is the fact that it’s never really highlighted. When you think of a punch and MMA most people will think of the knock out blow, the spectacle that draws in casual and hardcore fans alike. The thing with knock out blows are that they’re rarely produced by the jab. Sometimes people forget about what got them to the dance and focus on the fireworks. So why should the jab be the strongest part of your game? Here’s a few reasons. UFC Rory jab

It Sets Up Everything

The jab is essential to setting up your additional offense. Whether it’s a cross or a leg kick, the jab can start things off nicely and throw your opponent off the follow up strike.

The Simplest Technique to Use

There’s seriously no other attack in the striking arts that’s simpler to throw than the jab. There’s no complex motions or complicated movements, you just need to fired it straight and true.

Great for Counters

Besides a cross or hook to make your opponent pay for rushing in, a well placed jab can cause damage and is hard to read to boot.

Keeps Opponents at Bay

UFC jab

Besides the teep or front kick, there’s nothing better than a jab to keep your opponent honest. The idea is to make your opponent keep in mind that if they come forward they have something nasty waiting for them. So how often do you use your jab? Let is know in the comments below and be sure to follow Generation Iron MMA on Facebook and Twitter.

One FC Bands Weight Cutting Putting Pressure On UFC

Yang Jian

Never thought I’d see the day…

Wow – this just in. Asia’s leading MMA fighting organization One FC has taken one of the ballsiest move in mma…ney, in fighting, by banning weight cutting by dehydration! Often talked about by fanboys and medical professionals alike, this is an issue that has been around for ages but until recently has just been thought of as part of the sport. Growing up, cutting weights and contact sports were like peanut butter and jelly, cookies and milk, peas and cornbread (okay before they had a fight), it was included as part of the grind. Well grind no more. One FC will be implementing a “walk in weight” policy which tracks fighters weight through multiple tests and weigh ins  throughout the training process – including 3 hours before an event. ONE CEO

CEO of ONE Championship™ Victor Cui stated, “ONE Championship has paved the way for MMA in Asia and we have always been at the forefront of innovation for the sport. By banning weight cutting by dehydration, we are leading the way globally for enhanced safety standards for professional MMA athletes. We believe that through the implementation of this new weigh-in program, our fighters will enjoy a safer and healthier life inside and outside of the cage. I invite the other two major global MMA organizations, Bellator and UFC, to follow in our footsteps to protect athletes and to eliminate the process of weight cutting by dehydration.”

Even though ONE championship hasn’t called out any names specifically you’ve got to think that this move puts significant amount of pressure on other organizations to change their policies. Specifically UFC – it is the biggest organization after all. Will policies change, or will ONE FC be on a lonely island? Chime in with your comments below. For your viewing policy pleasure we’ve included a copy of the general regulations and policies and a link to the full article. GENERAL REGULATIONS & POLICIES  RELATED TO ATHLETES’ WEIGHT 1. Athletes must submit their current walking weight and daily training weight regularly. Athletes will input and track their daily weight online via a dedicated web portal. Athletes may input data weekly but must include daily weights. 2. Athletes will be assigned to their weight class based on collated data and random weight checks. Athletes are not allowed to drop a weight class when less than 8 weeks out from an event. 3. During fight week, weights are checked daily. Urine specific gravity will also be checked the day after arrival and 3 hours prior to the event.  Athletes must be within their weight class and pass specific gravity hydration tests all week and up to 3 hours before the event.  If an athlete falls outside the weight, or fails a test, they are disqualified from the event.  Doctors may request additional testing at their discretion. 4. Catch weight bouts are allowed. However, the athlete with the higher weight will not be heavier than 105% of the lighter opponent’s weight. 5. ONE will conduct random weight checks on athletes at our discretion. 6. Athletes may petition to change weight classes outside of the 8-week competition zone and must be within their new desired weight at that time. In addition, athletes must pass a specific gravity urine test when their weight is within the limits of the newly petitioned weight class. ONE doctors can request additional testing to determine the amount of weight drop allowed over a specific time. 7. The usage of IVs for the purpose of rehydration will not be allowed.   Overage and limits of weight reduction: · 3 weeks to event day: Athlete must be within contracted weight class · 4 weeks: 1.5% bodyweight over max · 5 weeks: 3% · 6 weeks: 4.5% · 7 weeks: 6% · 8 weeks: +6% max over.

WATCH JOHN CENA SQUAT AN IMPRESSIVE 611 LBS LIKE A BOSS

Generation Iron John Cena 611 Squat

Generation Iron John Cena 611 Squat

“Six eleven B*t@h”

It’s no secret that WWE Superstar John Cena is a big fan of bodybuilding. Starting out as a skinny kid  from Ashburnham, Massachusetts, Cena was picked on mercilessly in high school until he discovered the wonders of  strength training. Puberty and couple of visits to the gym later, Cena went on to become a multi sport athlete in college, eventually falling in love with the sport of wrestling.  After a brief stint in wrestling school, his talent could not be denied and Vince McMahon eventually  had to make him prime time – the rest is history.

.

Well it seems like he hasn’t stopped there. Lifting is still a big part of Cena’s life and it shows. In a YouTube video posted last week, Cena is shown squatting 611 lbs, his personal best. The feat alone is pretty impressive but the editing makes it all the better. There’s close up and good video quality, but what makes it especially entertaining is the editing they do at the end. You’ll see what I’m talking about. Check out the video below!

So what do you think of John Cena’s skwaattt? Impressive or nah? Hit us up with your comments and shout outs below!
