NBA Suspends Season After Player Contracts Coronavirus

NBA cancels the rest of the season.

The coronavirus is ravaging the planet and now it seems that the NBA has been affected by the pandemic.

It appears that NBA player Rudy Gobert who plays for the Utah Jazz has contracted the sickness according to reports. While cases of the sickness have been relatively low, particularly compared to other countries, the diagnosis doesn’t appear to be all that encouraging as more and more US citizen are contracting the virus.

In response to these players contracting the virus it would appear that the NBA has taken notice and have taken swift action. The NBA has decided to suspend the rest of the season due to concerns that the coronavirus could potentially spread.

Here is a press release about the cancellation of the season.

While the situation remains extremely serious, to suspend the rest of the season is pretty insane, especially when you consider the amount of money that will be lost. Then again, public safety is paramount and ensuring that fans don’t contract the sickness should to priority above all else.

It’s a very difficult choice, but you have to be glad that the NBA is choosing to protect people rather than focus on their bottom line.

The unfortunate thing is that without a universal healthcare plan it will make combating the coronavirus even more difficult for the country. So many individuals are without healthcare and could potentially spread the virus like wildfire. With no plans in sight to implement a universal healthcare system you can be sure the coronavirus will continue to spread.

What do you make of the NBA suspending their season due to the coronavirus outbreak?
