No matter how many times it’s touched on and talked about it seems that deadlifts always remains a hot button issue when it comes to strength training. Whether you’re a bodybuilder, powerlifter, or a strongman, the topic of deadlifting with proper form is always being discussed and hammered home. It’s easy to injure yourself doing deadlifts if you don’t have the proper form. You’ll definitely have to be diligent, but more than anything else you have to know all the nuances to the lift.

First of all, you must keep your back straight. Too many times people have a rounded back when they’re doing deadlifts which is one of the leading causes of injury when performing the exercise. You should also know what you’re trying to emphasize during your lift. For example, if you’re trying to perform stiff leg deadlifts for your hamstrings then you’ll have to avoid behind your knees too much as you’ll engage your quads into the lift which will take away from stimulating your hamstrings to the fullest. You must also have a vertical shin position to get the most out of the deadlift.

.

But despite all those points it’s still easy to screw up your deadlifting technique. But it seems as if well respected powerbuilder Stan “The Rhino” Efferding has been shown the light when it comes to proper shin positioning and form while deadlifting. Efferding is often touted as being one of the strongest powerbuilders around and his opinion is one that should be highly regarded. Take a look at the Instagram posting below and the apparatus Efferding utilizes in order to perfect his deadlifting technique.

Check THIS out!! That Brandon Allen @filthypowergym isn’t nearly as dumb as he looks!! He invented this Vert pull apparatus to help teach the vertical shin position that @koklyaev_mikhail taught me using a box. The box slides back or tips up while the Vert pull stays in place and can be used on any platform or in any gym. I think Mikhail would be proud 🙂

Do you think this is a helpful tool to perfect your deadlift?
