Motivation: Woman Achieves Miraculous Transformation After Being Bedridden For 8 Years

A truly motivational transformation.

For eight years, Becky Adams spent 90% of her time in bed with the lights off and door shut. Even light noises could trigger piercing headaches.

In 2001 she was pulling out of the parking lot in her apartment complex when she got T-boned. The crash left barely able to stand even after 10 months in the hospital. At home, her husband and children tended to her daily. She was constantly dosed on painkillers and medications that doctors said she needed.

The injuries were: crushed ribs all along her left side, broken pelvis in three places, severe head trauma, ruptured diaphragm, and a collapsed lung.

Becky bounced from doctor to doctor, desperately seeking relief, not just from the pain, but from the mountain of painkillers she was prescribed. She told Greenfield Reporter:

“I felt like that’s when my life was over. I felt like I was dying. It was always more medicine, more medicine, more medicine.”

In 2014 Becky took a fatal dose of painkillers in an attempt to take her own life. Fortunately, she survived the incident. Though she was still deeply depressed, she made one decision: to stop taking painkillers. Cold turkey.

“I didn’t care at that point if I lived or died. My doctors advised against it … They kept telling me I wouldn’t be able to function without (drugs). They said I wouldn’t live without it. I said, ‘OK, I don’t care.’”

For a year she endured brutal withdrawal symptoms in addition to her usual pain. Her husband even tried to convince her to take some and wean herself off. She refused.

By January 2015, Becky had made it through the worst of the pain. She walked into Greenfield’s Family Fun and Fitness in an expedition to rebuild her body.

Walking up stairs and curling five-pounds were serious challenges. She kept at it for weeks.

Becky recalls one night sitting in the gym’s parking lot alone, still in pain from simple exercises, and crying.

A song came on the radio — “Just be Held” by Casting Crowns.

That song triggered an epiphany.

“Everybody has a story. Mine wasn’t an exception. Mine wasn’t anything special. I always said ‘why me?’… But I finally realized that everybody’s got a story. No matter what it is.”

Becky’s mind was completely reformed. She set a goal of competing in bodybuilding, and stepped onstage for her first show in April 2016.

The gym’s owner says Becky is inspiration personified for all her members.

“She’s living proof that you can accomplish anything if you put your mind to it.”

Husband Mike also said he is still amazed at the transformation.

“She’s 100 percent a different person. She went from somebody who is lying in bed all the time in a dark room to somebody who’s wanting to get up and go. She’s pure energy, going all the time.”

Becky’s outlook on life is powerfully simple. She continues to train and compete, with a smile on her face that was absent for 8 years.

“Some people live their lives letting whatever their situation is be in control. When the reality is we are in control.”

April Roby Loves The Bodybuilding Lifestyle

Embracing the bodybuilding lifestyle.

Bikini bodybuilder April Roby took first place at the 2018 NPC Ronnie Coleman Classic. She’s now headed to her first national show.

April;s life revolves around bodybuilding and classes at Northeastern State University, where she is a nutrition and dietetics major.

“I learn more and more each day with my major,” she told Tahlequah Daily Press. “It’s my passion, and hopefully, one day I’ll be a registered dietitian and own my own diabetic clinic or my own sports clinic.”

April does cardio in the morning, and training at night. She says the cardio is the most important and least pleasant.

“It’s to get that very last bit of body fat off. It forces your body to run off your ketones – your fat stores, because you don’t have those carbohydrates in your system for your body to run off. That’s the idea of it.”

At national competitions, bikini competitors try to dial down to as low as 8 percent body fat.

Her first national show will be in Miami, Florida. First or second place will earn her a pro-card.

“I’m not competing until November, so I can build a little bit more muscle and get more symmetrical before that time. My typical prep is 16 weeks, and it takes a lot of work…You have to stick to your strict diet, because it is so planned out perfectly to where your macros, your protein, your carbs and your fat are exactly what you’ll need to get the body you want.”

April says she doesn’t even mind not having the time to socialize with others. She prefers living with a strict and detailed schedule.

“The hardest part would be staying consistent on the diet. It gets hard when you can’t have the foods that you want. You’re constantly hungry, but you can’t give in to your cravings. So it’s definitely a mental game.”

Karate World Champion Abdalla Ibrahim Scores Massive KO At Karate Combat: Inception

Karate specialist scores vicious knock out.

When a lot of people think about karate they tend to dismiss it, laugh it off as simply a martial art with people dressed in pajamas and throwing kicks that couldn’t possibly land. At least that was the notion until Lyoto Machida burst onto the scene and started destroying the competition in the UFC. Since then we have seen a host of different karate practioners take center stage in MMA including Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, Justin Scoggins, and converts like Henry Cejudo.

Now that it has been established that karate has a strong amount of credibility in the striking realm, a new organization has sprouted up to put the martial art form on full display.

Karate Combat is a new promotion that showcases full contact karate at it’s highest level. With karate fighters from all around the globe, Karate Combat is a new platform for those seeking to prove their mettle in a one on one match.

The organization just had it’s first official event, Karate Combat: Inception, in Miami Florida, offering up some of the most talented fighters in karate today. One such combatant is Abdalla Ibrahim, a multiple time karate world champion who saw action against Bellator MMA veteran Josh Quayhagen.

The two had an intense and short match which saw world champion Abdalla Ibrahim score a vicious knockout victory.

Also in action was fellow world champion Adham Sabry who won his contest by unanimous decision in an impressive and hard fought match. With a strong coaching staff at Lynbrook Ultimate Martial Arts And Fitness, consisting of Sensei Mamdouh Ibrahim, Uly Yossef, and a little known managing editor Jonathan Salmon, Abdalla Ibrahim and Adham Sabry were able to score massive victories to start of their Karate Combat career.

The team prepared for the contest through hours of conditioning and sparring that sharpened Abdalla to score a massive victory.

Barbados Coach Says His team Was 9.5/10 At The Arnold Classic Brazil

Barbados bodybuilders excelled at the Arnold Classic Brazil.

Head Coach of the Barbados National Bodybuilding and Physique Team Roger Boyce gave his team a 9.5/10 rating on their performance at the Arnold Classic Brazil in Sao Paulo last weekend.

He told Nation News:

“The team did great. We secured all Top 15 finishes, so it is a big plus for the respective disciplines. The standard was high. We had tough competition and the team generally rose to the challenge.”

Of the nine team members, six were top ten in their divisions.

Three of those- Shakira Doughlin (Bikini Fitness), Ramon Broomes (Open Bodybuilding) and Ramona Morgan (Figure) – made top 6.

Most of the competition came from Colombia, Chile, and Brazil, and Roger said every member of their team made great adjustments to win. He especially praised rookies Vanessa Jones (Bikini) and Kirk Alleyne (Bodybuilding).

“Vanessa, Dionne, everyone did great. All of them did personal bests. It is the best time that I have seen Ramon, Kirk and Ramona look. I am really happy with the team performance.”

When asked if he will be trying to recruit more competitors for next year, Boyce commented:

“It is not necessarily about going back with a bigger team, but with a team that can compete. We just don’t want to work on numbers.”

Broomes, winner of the 2017 Mr Bridgetown, is a 27-year-old personal trainer. He feels he has had issues performing at his best in the past, but is positive about his performance this year.

“I was back to something like my best form. I really brought a good package to this show. Knowing the level I was going up against, it was necessary. I was definitely in my best condition in a long time.”

Doughlin, the team veteran, was happy with her third place finish, a significant improvement over last year.

“This particular show, my focus was just on bringing it on stage. I worked very hard to ensure that my first show this year would be a stepping stone to summer. For me, I feel great to have made the top six and over the moon to crack the top three after only being in the top 15 last year…This show was monumental for the entire team. It was hard but everyone did well.”
