OPINION: JUSTIN COMPTON WILL BEAT PHIL HEATH

Generation Iron Justin Compton Phil Heath

Generation Iron Justin Compton Phil Heath

Looking towards the future.

In the world of mens open weight bodybuilding there is one name and one name only that rules supreme over the division: Phil Heath. With five straight Olympia wins it’s pretty hard to deny that Heath is the number one bodybuilder in the world. Other than Kai Greene and more recently Dexter Jackson, there hasn’t been a bodybuilder out there that has managed to challenge Heath since he captured his first Sandow five years ago.

Though Phil Heath is certainly still the man to beat in the open weight division, there are still those who are a potential threat to the current bodybuilding king. With every passing year, Heath grows older and older and farther from his prime. Unless he’s blessed with the kind of genetics that Dexter Jackson possesses, there’s no doubt that Heath’s physique will become worse before it gets better. In this game no one stays at the top forever and eventually every champion, no matter how dominant, no matter how talented, must eventually make room for the new blood.

.

With bodybuilders like Big Ramy and Cedric McMillan on the rise, Heath’s challenges increase with every passing year and he’ll only be able to fend off these young contenders for so long. And while the name on everyone’s tongue is always Kai Greene… let’s not beat on the same topic over and over and start looking towards the younger generation. Justin Compton is a bodybuilder that appears to be poised for greatness. And believe it or not, other credible bodybuilders have pointed to him as being a potential threat to Heath’s crown.

After being absent from this year’s Olympia event, it appears that Compton has been spending his time wisely, training hard in the gym and hoping to make the kind of drastic adjustments that will see him becoming an Olympia champion. He’s not rushing. He’s thinking ahead and waiting for the right moment to unveil his Olympia physique. He’s been documenting his progress on Instagram and he’s looking damn impressive. And now with the Arnold Classic 2016 only weeks away – we can’t wait to see what kind of impression he’ll make. If he can give Kai Greene a run for his money… perhaps the Mr. Olympia 2016 will be very interesting indeed.

CAN TODAY’S BODYBUILDERS COMPETE WITH JAY CUTLER’S 2001 PHYSIQUE?

Generation Iron Jay Cutler 2001

Generation Iron Jay Cutler 2001

Prime Cutler vs Prime Heath.

The ultimate competition for proving who’s the best bodybuilder in the world is right around the corner. The Mr. Olympia contest is more than just a simple bodybuilding competition, but an event that features a number of different athletes and recreations. The Olympia has a long history featuring some dominant champions and even some controversial moments that are still spoken of today. That rich history is what sets apart the Olympia from other similar bodybuilding events.

Every champion was deserving, proving they were the absolute best through extensive training, brilliant posing, and the confidence that comes with being number one. Champions like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Frank Zane, Lee Haney, Dorian Yates, Ronnie Coleman; all of those men were considered at one time or another the most well muscled, evenly proportioned, shredded bodybuilders out there.

Another bodybuilding champion of note was undoubtedly Jay Cutler. The man who would eventually go on to defeat one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time, Ronnie Coleman, Cutler was a man on a mission in the late 90s and early 2000s. After falling to Coleman a number of different times, Cutler was determined to bring his best to the table in order to unseat the then thought to be unbeatable champion. Those losses would prove to be the biggest motivating factor for Cutler and saw him make constant improvements to his physique until finally defeating Coleman in the 2006 Olympia competition.

But even before then Jay was in championship form. In 2001 he had the kind of form that may have proven to defeat even current champion Phil Heath. Take a look at his impressive form in the video below.

Apparently This Is How To Spot A Fake Natural Bodybuilder

Generation Iron Fake Natural Bodybuilder
Strength Wars Movie

Fake or legit?

In the world of bodybuilding the difference between being in good shape and unbelievable shape can be dependent on a bunch of outside factors. You can have the best work ethic in the world, train six days a week, have a great mind muscle connection, and still not get swole and shredded. Genetics are a major key to acquiring a great physique and sometimes you just can’t beat mother nature.

Though that may be a hard pill to swallow, in this day and age there is always a way around any given obstacle. Anabolic steroids are viewed as a helping hand to some bodybuilders, while many others consider it to be a cheat drug, a way of skipping the line if you don’t have the talent, will, or patience to achieve a great physique on your own. The topic of steroids is pretty polarizing and has caused constant debate between bodybuilders of all levels for decades.

The subject is so important to bodybuilding these days that the “natty or not” movement has become a big talking point for many natural and non natural bodybuilders. Natty’s believe that using steroids, often times called gear, isn’t worth the risk, that a real athlete doesn’t need to use drugs to improve. Other athletes believe it offers a helping hand, but that it still requires you to work your ass off.

With such a heated back and forth debate, it’s no wonder that the two camps are at constant battle over which method is the best. Another major talking point is also whether bodybuilders that have labeled themselves gear free are actually using anabolic substances. To naturals and even geared bodybuilders, claiming natty while still having a massive and shredded form of the pro bodybuilder is met with a ton of scrutiny.

Mike O’Hearn is an athlete who is constantly preaching about being natural, yet many observers in the fitness world are skeptical. It seems that even YouTube fitness personalities have an opinion on the former American Gladiator star. Of course, we can take all of this advice with a grain of salt – but it’s interesting either way to take a quick watch:

BEN PAKULSKI’S 7 LEG EXERCISES WILL GIVE YOU WHEELS OF STEEL

Generation Iron 7 Ben Pakulski 7 Bes Leg Exercises

B-Pak’s Leg Day.

Creating the total package is the absolute goal of any high level bodybuilder. It’s all about sculpting a perfect form from head to toe. To focus on one major muscle group while at the same time neglecting another is a dire mistake that many new bodybuilders make when they first begin their journey of getting shredded. It’s a common mistake for sure, but one that could end up taking away from their overall physique.

For some, they obsess on their arms, others it’s their chest, and still others focus all of their attention on their lats. But one muscle group that should never be neglected is undoubtedly the legs, including the quads, hamstrings and calves. When it comes to training legs correctly there’s no better advice than that of a professional. When that professional is a man by the name Ben Pakulski then your best bet is to sit back, relax and take the info that he drops to heart.

Pakulski is not only a highly regarded bodybuilder, but a man who is most likely destined to become a top trainer once he retires from active competition. Legs are some of Pakulski’s strong points and he has some specific exercises that he can ensure some serious wheel development. Recently B-Pak sat down with Muscular Development and talked in detail about the leg exercises he personally uses to get massive. We broke it down to the core elements. Check it out.

Pakulski warms up with leg curls as according to the bodybuilder, “I find that they warm up the knees better, without putting any strain on those tendons, plus it’s better to have a pump going in the hams before you start any type of heavy pressing or squatting movement.”

What do you see when you look in the mirror.

This Sunday revealed another Sunday NFL Countdown pump up video starring the one and only “People’s Champ” Kai Greene. And let’s face it, Kai is the perfect person to do these kind of pre-game videos. He has the dark moody drama in his voice that really pushes the intensity of each match up. The same kind of intensity he brings to every posing routine. This might be about football – but it is also the perfect thing to watch before you go into beast mode at the gym. Watch it above.

MORE PROOF THAT PROTEIN POWDERS ARE FAILING YOU

Generation Iron Protein Powders Fail

Generation Iron Protein Powders Fail

All the powder but not all of the protein.

When it comes to building muscle and making great gains, an athlete must train accordingly. You have to lift weight, train consistently, and maintain a great diet. You can’t get swole off of bread and water alone. You have to eat a balanced diet that consists of a certain percentage of protein, carbohydrates, and fat. Any of those eaten in the wrong percentages can vastly affect your gains.

The thing is about macronutrients is that depending on what you plan on doing, either losing body fat or bulking up, you may not get all you need from the foods you eat. In that case what is an athlete to do? Well, for a long time we thought that supplements were the way to go in order to get much needed macronutrients. One supplement in particular has been many athlete’s best friend: protein powder. Whether you just don’t have access to enough meat based protein or if you’re a vegetarian or vegan, protein powder has been the answer to many athlete’s macronutrient woes for many years.

.

It’s always been a helpful tool to help with maintaining or gaining muscle mass. But it seems like these days supplements are becoming less and less useful. Recently we’ve been learning that protein powder has been the packing far less grams of the good stuff than we once thought. For someone with so much riding on getting the adequate amount of protein, having fillers in powders can prove to be pretty detrimental to an athlete’s gains.

It would appear that the brand New Dawn Nutrition, Inc. is that latest in a slew of companies that have been accused in misrepresenting their products, specifically protein powders. For more info click here. There’s a lot of technical stuff in there – but what it boils down to is that the amount of protein tested in their products actually didn’t match what they claim to provide. With more and more companies being implicated in these allegations of representation, you have to wonder which products are legit and which are just selling a lie. In a sport that focuses so much importance on what exactly goes into your body – it’s a scary thought that a supplement so many bodybuilders rely on might be putting a bunch of crap into your body – and even worse, not giving you the protein that it promises.

Bodybuilding diets aren’t cheap either – so it would be pretty upsetting to find out a lot of us are throwing money down the drain.

What do you think about these filler allegations? Let us know in the comments and forums. Also, be sure to follow Generation Iron on Facebook and Twitter.

WANT HUGE ARMS? BUILD UP YOUR TRICEPS NOW!

generation iron

generation ironIf you plan on your arms turning a few heads then get your triceps in order.

When building up the arms there’s a tendency to want to focus on the bicep during a workout. No one’s gonna blame you for the train of thought, after all the bicep is perhaps the most attention grabbing muscle of the arm speaking from a strictly visual aspect. But anyone who knows the human body will tell you that the best approach for developing your biceps is to focus as much, if not more, attention on your triceps.

Now why the hell would anyone do that you may ask, the triceps is on the opposite side of your arm after all, what does it have to do with building up your bicep? Well shut up, sit down, and we’ll tell you. The triceps muscle, contrary to popular belief, takes up most of the middle section of your arm.

That’s right. Though your bicep may be appear like the more prominent muscle, the triceps are the dominating muscle group in your arm. If you plan on building an aesthetically pleasing arm then you better start building up those triceps muscles. Ask CT Fletcher if he neglects his triceps training and he’ll laugh in your face. The top pros have to build every part of their body. Neglecting any part of their body isn’t an option. Guys like Phil Heath and Kai Greene never got anywhere by cutting corners and neither should you. Put some of these exercises into your routine, sit back and watch magic happen. You can thank us later.
