Oleskii Novikov impresses by setting the new world record for the 18-inch deadlift at World’s Strongest Man 2020.
The SBD World’s Strongest Man Championship continued today in Bradenton, Fla. as 10 of the world’s top strongmen advanced to the final. The athletes competed in three events, including the Giants Medley, Deadlift and Keg Toss. The highlight of the day came in the Deadlift competition, where Oleksii Novikov was the strongman to beat.
After several unsuccessful attempts by competitors including Britain’s reigning Strongman Adam Bishop (GBR), Novikov claimed the new record of 537.5 kg / 1,185 lbs., a record previously held by Tom Magee with a 535 kilograms (1,179 lb) partial deadlift from 18″ off the floor during the 1983 World’s Strongest Man competition.
Beyond Novikov, three other athletes were given the opportunity try and break the world record. Those athletes were Adam Bishop, Jerry Pritchett, and CF Caron – who were all unable to break the record.
Here are the full results from this event:
- Oleksii Novikov – 537.5kg
- Adam Bishop – 509kg
