The 1930’s
Thanks to William H. Sheldon, PhD, MD, a Harvard psychologist, from the 1930’s on was considered the “V-shape” era. This because Sheldon’s idea that the mesomorphic body type “Wide shoulders, small hips, lean muscle” was the ideal type of man. Because of this leading men looked like Clark Gables, Jeremy Peck and John Wayne. Not massive, not cut, but men who were fit and could take care of themselves physically.
