This Is How Bodybuilding Changed Physiques In America Over Time

Strength Wars Movie

The 1990’s to present

Currently leading men come in all shapes and sizes – well almost. The leading men nowadays all seem to be some type of hybrid, some witty Brute, whose surgical with a gun (or some form of destruction) and lean but strong. Whether you’re the slightly bulkier Daniel Craig as 007 or Brad Pitt as the nihilist charmer. These guys all take a bit from the ideals of yesteryear and pack it on to a medium frame.

Much like how the bodybuilding industry is starting to look back at “classic physiques,” America started to tone down the massive size from the 80’s but didn’t lose the shredded look that was so appealing. It seems that today a muscular and healthy physique is more desired than ever before. Perhaps not on a mass monster level… but more like the Physique division. And it’s all thanks to bodybuilding.

Generation Iron body 1990 beyond

A big thanks goes out to “Lammily” and their report on a 2012 study from the Institute of Neuroscience, Newcastle University and the Department of Psychology, University of Northumbria – who used visualization software to estimate male and female body preferences.

Now you have one more reason to be proud of your bodybuilding lifestyle. It may be a niche sport – but it has changed the way Americans across the country look at ideal body types.
