This Is How Bodybuilding Changed Physiques In America Over Time

The 1960’s

Around the 1960’s things had started to change. Men were become less concerned with being rough and ready and more concerned with being clean shaven, and on time. With food readily available to most Americans, the middle class went to work in corporate america. Assets like being tall and having an angular shape face were advantages. This is the era was all about keeping up appearance and looking like the neighbor next door.

However in the late 1960’s children became disenchanted with this squeaky clean life and didn’t want to inherit their father’s war (Vietnam war). They rebelled, wore long hair, and idolized rock stars. Social justice leaders were the who’s who and they couldn’t care less about picking up “heavy ass weights.”
