Big Ramy has been chronicling his fitness journey leading up to the Arnold Classic 2020 on the YouTube of his sponsor company, Dragon Pharma, LLC.

The YouTube docuseries, titled “Road to the Arnold,” documents Big Ramy’s workouts, diet secrets, and mental state in the lead up to the Arnold Classic 2020. In the video above, released yesterday, we can catch up with Big Ramy on Part 6 of his journey as he trains his chest for the festival.

The video is as useful a document of Big Ramy’s workouts as it is a fitness inspiration compilation for bodybuilders everywhere. Big Ramy is one of the best currently competing on the pro stage and you can really see that reflected in the intensity of his workouts and the way he talks about the sport.

The video, which is about 20 minutes in total length, is fairly spare on the details of Big Ramy’s mind. Although other segments in the “Road to the Arnold” feature have had more dialogue and more insight into his psychological process, this installment is notable for how in-depth it goes into the workout itself. We see the real nitty gritty of what working out is like for an Olympia pro like Big Ramy, and it’s mind-bending what his body can do. This chest workout is certainly one to take note of, since it’s what Big Ramy thinks will push him over the edge in terms of conditioning and hopefully score him a top-3 spot on the Arnold stage.

Only a pro could train like this, so don’t expect to replicate this intensity in your own life at the gym. It’s important to know your limits, when to push against them, and when to accept them. In this case, Big Ramy is a huge inspiration, but don’t go running out to the gym to pile on the insane weight you see him pulling here. This is a reminder of how far any of us can come with the right attitude and the self-determination to get the job done.

For many of the exercises in this video, you can see Big Ramy putting on the reps and then demanding more of himself. “That’s ten,” he says at the end of the video. “Now, five more.” He really exemplifies the push-beyond-your-boundaries mindset that so many professional bodybuilders have. When you talk about who’s good enough to go pro and who isn’t, it usually comes down to just that; it’s not about genetics or having the right body type, it’s the attitude and the personal drive that push you past the finish line and beyond. We could all learn a lesson from the commitment Big Ramy has demonstrated here to going above and beyond. It’s about making time for yourself and your goals, forgetting about your anxieties and whatever is holding you back. In those moments at the gym, all that matters to Big Ramy is how much he can lift. Now ask yourself: how are you going to push yourself in the gym today?
