Professional bodybuilding is all about that stage presence, the hard work put into each training session during the off season, the procession of each pose during the pose down. In order to be the best you have to show and prove why you should be considered for that top spot. Above all else it’s about impressing the onlookers, a few in particular. No, we’re not talking about the fans, but the people put in charge of deciding who will win the big competitions. When it comes to IFBB judges there’s definitely one name that comes to mind: Steve Weinberger.

One of the people who decides the winners of the Olympia competition, Steve is a seasoned veteran when it comes to judging physiques. As co-owner of the East Coast Mecca, Bev Francis Power House Gym in Syosset New York, Steve is a man accustomed to seeing the best bodybuilders in the business step through the gym doors to get some grade A training. Being surrounded by the best in the world no doubt gave him a keen skill to spot great talent as well as critique physiques and offer up valuable advice to aspiring pros as well as seasoned competitors.

This is a man who has given advice to some of the greatest bodybuilders of all time. He was integral in helping Dorian Yates during his championship reign and credited by many in the business as the man who has shaped their career for the better. How has he become such an influence? His no nonsense attitude towards critique has given him a reputation as a man who can be trusted to tell you exactly what you lack, the strong points of your physique, and the way to improve on both your strengths and weaknesses.

Who is Steve Weinberger? He’s the man that you want in your corner if you want a no frills approach to getting you the advice you need to become the best version of yourself on stage. Steve has the knowledge and expertise to bring the greatest out of an amateur or pro bodybuilder by providing them with the info that they need. It’s just one of the perks of training at the East Coast Mecca.

It’s rare that the media or even fans would bring up Steve’s name on a regular basis. Which is insane when you think about how instrumental he is to the major IFBB competitions. While everyone is out there talking about the Phil and Kai rivalry or glorifying the massive physiques on stage – they should be also talking about the judges. The inside system and how it works. The essential way that the sport works as a whole is strongly tied to the judges and, of course, to Steve Weinberger. He may not have the same glitz and glam as the heavy hitters that take the stage – but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s one name that everyone should know.

Who is Steve Weinberger shouldn’t even be the question. The real question should be: Why aren’t more people talking about Steve Weinberger? Hopefully this could be the first step towards changing the way we look at bodybuilding and how it’s judged.
