Twitter was on fire last night after Adam Schefter suggested Tom Brady was gearing up to leave the Patriots.

During an ESPN Monday Night Countdown roundtable, Adam Schefter suggested six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady was showing signs of quitting the team. “Let’s just boil this down to the basic facts,” Schefter said. “Has he put his home for sale? Yes. Has his trainer put his home for sale? Yes. Has he set up his contract to void at the end of the season, making him a free agent? Yes. So if he’s selling his home and his trainer’s selling his home and he’s voiding his contract, what does that tell you?”

At 42, Brady is more likely looking at a permanent retirement from the NFL than an abrupt transfer to another team, especially given how cherished and iconic his relationship with the Patriots has been. But that didn’t stop fan theories about what could be happening behind the scenes from spreading like wildfire across the internet. Some superfans were quick to point out that Brady seems to have fallen out of favor with Belichick in recent years and could be looking for another team as a chance to duke it out with his former coach. Although Brady himself has denied retirement rumors, he’s also mentioned that Gisele Bündchen has put the pressure on him to focus more on family and less on football now that he’s got six Super Bowl titles under his belt. Whatever his reasons, Brady does seem to be gearing up for a major life change in the upcoming season — only time will tell what that means for the Patriots.
