Larry Wheels has taken on many challenges in the fitness world. This includes powerlifting, bodybuilding, and even arm wrestling. Now, Wheels can add slap fighting to this long list of challenges. Recently, Wheels faced super heavyweight champion Layne Viernes and got knocked out during a power slap challenge.

Wheels shared his encounter with Viernes on social media and knew what he was getting himself into.

“I think it’s 100% I’m going to get knocked out. This guy is like 400 pounds and he’s the champion of the super heavyweights. I told him don’t hold back.”

Created by UFC’s Dana White, Power Slap has become extremely popular. Slap fighting has created another avenue for fighters to try and many have made the jump from the UFC to the new organization.

Wheels fits the bill of a fitness star who is not afraid to try different things. As the sport continued to grow, Wheels had his eye on it and decided to face the best of the best.

Larry Wheels Gets Knocked Out By Layne Viernes

Layne Viernes, a native of Hawaii, has a record of 14-1-0 with 12 knockouts during his slap fighting career. The 6-foot-2, 385-pound fighter began slap fighting after seeing it on social media and believed he could be the greatest to ever do it. Viernes continues to fight for his goal of becoming the first Hall of Fame candidate in the sport.

Viernes offered Wheels different advice and tips on how to slap and receive a slap. The duo took part in a warmup before taking the stand. The strike from the champion put Wheels down but Viernes was impressed with how he handled it.

“420lb/190kg SUPER heavy weight champion gives me his hardest slap! Should I join @powerslap?”

Larry Wheels had been working toward earning his Pro Card in bodybuilding. Wheels finished as the runner-up at the 2023 Amateur Olympia and came close to accomplishing this goal. Wheels had been off steroids but shared that he “relapsed” and went back on a full cycle, which prompted him to quit bodybuilding all together and pursue a healthier lifestyle.

Wheels also was training to deadlift 1,000 pounds. That has been a powerlifting goal of his for quite some time. He will also put this behind him because it would require him to do things he would not want to, including going back on gear and adding more meals into his diet plan.

Larry Wheels now has slap fighting in his arsenal and could choose to do some more training moving forward.
