CAN SERGIO OLIVA JR FINALLY LIVE UP TO THE HYPE AFTER HIS NPC NATIONAL WIN?

Generation Iron Sergio Oliva Jr.

Stepping out of the shadow.

Bodybuilding is truly an art form not simply because of the aesthetics of the athletes or the gracefulness of their posing routine. It’s a different kind of art that requires a different kind of artistic talent… as well as the natural abilities to back it up. Genetics are a big factor in becoming an impressive bodybuilder. Sure, you can have all the work ethic and talent in the world, but that alone won’t carry you to pro status. The ability to go far in the sport is in your blood literally. It’s a truth that has been well established even as far back as the early days of bodybuilding to the much respected Golden Era, a time which featured some of the most impressive athletes the sport has seen.

If you ask any fan of the Golden Era of bodybuilding then there’s no doubt that the name Sergio Oliva will sound more than familiar to them. Back in the day there was barely anyone who could compete with Oliva. He was well proportioned, had massive muscle and definition, and the will to win that was only matched by his work ethic in the gym. Anyone whose able to defeat Arnold Schwarzenegger in a bodybuilding competition is worthy of praise and Oliva has garnered a legacy that fans and experts both have come to respect and revere.

Sergio Oliva passed away in 2012 leaving behind a legacy to be carried on by his son Sergio Oliva Jr. Despite his father wanting him to avoid pursuing bodybuilding as a career, Oliva Jr. has chosen to put everything he has into the sport that made his father a legend. Injuries and ailments have derailed Oliva Jr. during the onset of his bodybuilding pursuit and put a hold on his rise to muscle bound stardom. It also put Sergio out of the hype. This is an athlete who has all of the genetic potential to become a true legend – but we haven’t seen him in enough headlines.

That all might start to change after this weekend when he overcame all of his hardships and finally obtained his pro card at this past weekend NPC Nationals. If he plays his card right, this might be the defining moment that leads to a future where we see Sergio Oliva Jr. as a Olympia champion.

How did Oliva Jr. obtain his card? Through hard work, poise, and a well performed posing routine. Just take a look at the son of “The Myth” in the video below and try to tell us he hasn’t inherited his father’s abilities.

Time will only tell, but will Sergio Oliva Jr. be as great as his father before him? Let us know what you think in the comments and forums. Also, be sure to follow Generation Iron on Facebook and Twitter.
