TRAGEDY STRIKES THE FITNESS WORLD: REMEMBERING GREG PLITT

generation ironGreg Plitt was truly an impressive individual and will be sorely missed.

It’s never an easy pill to swallow when someone passes away and no different can be said for influential fitness model and personality, Greg Plitt. Plitt appeared on numerous romance novel covers, in editorial articles for Muscle & Fitness, and countless other fitness publications. He was truly a pioneer in the fitness community and some believe that he was the #1 Fitness Guru in the world.

Plitt was a Captain in the Army Rangers, a fitness trainer and spokesperson who had a huge influence on the community at large. Plitt was quite obviously a man that didn’t feel truly alive unless he was challenging himself, and trying to better himself in every way shape and form. He wasn’t simply content in being a fitness figure with a ripped physique, he was driven to be far more than that, and often tested his limits.

For those of you who have yet to hear about Greg’s tragic death, here’s what happened…. According to TMZ and The Daily News – On January 17, Greg was filming a promotional workout video for an energy drink called “No Fear” on the train tracks in Burbank, CA.  While trying to outrun the train between the rails, ala “Superman”, he was accidentally nipped by the speeding train, struck and killed.  Regardless of whether or not this was a foolish act on Greg’s part, it was one that cost him his life and made us all sit back and question the true meaning of it all and how we want to live our lives.  In any case – Greg lived life in the fast lane, and showed us all how to follow your dreams, push your limits and be the best you can be, no matter what it is you decide to do.

If he hadn’t lived his life to the fullest, his legacy would’ve been that of a man who never took chances, who was content with mediocrity. But Plitt simply wasn’t a man made for the mundane.  Muscle & Fitness’ article covering the fitness icon on a personal note; shed some light on the man’s thirst for experiencing new things. His ability to craftily construct a polished and intricately constructed armoire from scratch, is just a small example of how talented the man truly was.  This youtube tribute video is just a small taste of what Greg was all about…

A budding film and television career was on the horizon for the fitness great and it’s truly unfortunate that he lost his life at such a young age. But the man was determined to live his life by his own rules and lived every day to the fullest. To Plitt, life was about the journey and the powerful experiences one could have along the way – especially if they push themselves.  We at Generation Iron give our deepest condolences to Greg’s family and friends, and will do our best to share his vision..
