23- Year-Old Brit Wins World Junior Physique

This fall, a British 23 year old named Kieran Kevan, won several national and international bodybuilding titles.

Most notably, in October Kieran won the World Junior Physique at the World Natural Bodybuilding Federation awards in Boston, USA.

The young man was ecstatic about his early success, Physique divisions are known for having relatively large pools of competitors and relatively homogenous body types when compared to categories like Open Bodybuilding. For Kieran, to stand out so much felt like a huge accomplishment. He told BBC News:

“It’s pretty surreal. It feels awesome. And the thing is with men’s physique, it’s so competitive. Once I won that British title and the International title in the same day, I’m not gonna lie – I did cry.”

He understands that bodybuilding is itself a full time job. Outlining his daily regimen, Kieran sounds like he is a young man of serious commitment to and understanding of the game.

“You have to eat correctly, sleep correctly- it’s a 24 hour thing. If I’m getting ready for a show I’ll do my fartlek cardio, I’ll then come home prep 6-7 meals for the day, get to work, work my day, go to the gym, train for two hours, and then I’ll do another half hour of cardo.”

As a young competitor, Kieran has grown up in an era of ubiquitous self-advertisement and extreme self-consciousness. He offered a few thoughts on how modern men should approach the desire to improve themselves and ensure that desire stays healthy instead of self- destructive.

“I would say men have become a lot more health conscious, a lot more worried about what they look like and stuff as well. I think as long as you stay true to yourself and it doesn’t affect your health than you go for it!”

Kieran is certainly a young man to watch, as he will likely be expanding his competitive pursuits across the international stage.
