3 Reasons to Watch UFC 242: Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Dustin Poirier

Here are three reasons you should be tuning in for UFC 242!

It’s been pretty clear from the last several events that the UFC has continued to deliver some pretty action-packed cards. From UFC 241 featuring the return of Nate Diaz and a Heavyweight battle for the ages between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier to UFC Fight Night: Andrade vs Zhang which saw the first Chinese champion crowned in the organization’s history, the UFC has proven that they offer some pretty entertaining fights.

But while that may be enough for the hardcore fan to continue to tune in, casual fans may not be as enticed to tune into UFC 242. Here are a few reasons why they’re sorely mistaken.

Return of the Champ

Khabib Nurmagomedov has officially reached worldwide superstar status. Khabib’s battle with heated rival Conor McGregor generated the most Pay-Per-View buys in UFC history and while the bad blood sold the fight, it’s what happened after the battle that turned the UFC Lightweight champion into such a popular figure.

After forcing Conor McGregor to tap to a rear naked choke, Khabib Nurmagomedov thought it was a good idea to jump over the top of the cage and, like his nickname ‘The Eagle’, sore into his rival’s coaching corner to exact some personal justice for the pre-fight ridicule he endured ahead of the match-up.

Now, after a lengthy suspension and a number of fines, Khabib Nurmagomedov is making his return to action and fully intends to showcase why he’s the best Lightweight on the planet.

One Worthy Challenger

To say Dustin Poirier’s career resurgence has been a Cinderella story isn’t quite doing the man justice. After suffering a number of losses in both the Featherweight and Lightweight divisions, Dustin Poirier saw his stock plummet like a horrifying day for the Dow Jones.

But the losses didn’t deter Poirier one bit. In fact, it seems that ‘The Diamond’ has been reinvigorated as of late, putting on some of the best performances of his career. Finishing three of his last four opponents has proven that Dustin Poirier is on a mission and has no time for games.

His battle against Featherweight king Max Holloway at UFC 236 back in April showed that Dustin Poirier is a force to be reckoned with, possessing the kind of power, cardio, and determination to make him a nightmare for any style of opponent.

A Potential Battle for the Ages

This fight has all the potential to be one of the all-time greats. With Khabib Nurmagomedov hungry to once again prove his dominance and Dustin Poirier starving for a chance to anoint himself the king of the Lightweights, UFC 242 could produce one of the most exciting fights of the year.

But if you still aren’t convinced, the video breakdown below will offer up some details that may entice you even further.
