Anderson Silva: “I Will Stop When God Thinks I Cannot Do It Anymore”

At 42 years old, Anderson Silva is a living legend.

The former UFC Middleweight champion reigned his division for over 5 years, beating legends in unthinkable ways, and amassing one of the most impressive championship runs ever witnessed to this day. But now “The Spider” is facing drug test results that could not only terminate his career, but tarnish his legacy.

Silva was scheduled to fight rising star Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Fight Night 122 in Shanghai on November 25th, but on the 10th, he was pulled from the card after being flagged for a potential USADA drug test failure pursuant to an Oct. 26 sample collection. Silva is now provisionally suspended pending a hearing in front of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

The UFC nor the USADA has yet to disclose the substance for which Silva failed his test.

This is not Silva’s first positive test either, after a January 2015 decision win over Nick Diaz, Silva tested positive for the steroids androstane and drostanolone, and the fight was ruled a no-contest.

In addition to that no-contest Silva is 1-4 in his last five fights, although to his credit, only the loss that dethroned him came by knockout. This record spans five years, and many fans are calling for retirement. It is difficult to watch a once seemingly unbeatable champion struggle onward through aging performances and scandals like missed drug tests. However, it is not the fan’s decision to make and Silva has taken to Instagram and announced exactly where his mindset rests.

In the caption of one post he announced:

“Thank you, my people! You can be sure it’s not over yet. My love and my passion for the fight are here, firm and strong. The fight continues, I will stop when GOD thinks I can not do it anymore. So who is my fan, can be sure, that soon I’m back, to the joy of those who cheer for me and to the sadness of those who don’t kiss.”

And in another he described his philosophy of self improvement “Look harder at you, watch what you are really doing to evolve, don’t let envy and bad things emanate from your heart. In this way you can find the path of daily evolution, never forgetting who emanates positive energies truly receives them back, basic rule of life, who does good, receives good.”

So it seems as if “The Spider” is not done yet.
