ARE MMA CRITICS DISRESPECTING JOSE ALDO?

Generation Iron Jose Aldo

The champ isn’t getting the credit he deserves.

It seems that everywhere I turn, every website I go to, everyone I talk to somehow thinks that Conor McGregor will be victorious over Jose Aldo at UFC 194. Granted, I’m also picking McGregor to win the December 12th contest, but the level of disregard Aldo seems to be receiving is a bit mind boggling. Yeah, yeah, I may have written an article about how McGregor can beat Aldo, but that doesn’t mean I disrespect the Featherweight Champion’s abilities. Jose Aldo is arguably the number one pound for pound fighter in the world with dominant victories over the likes of Ricardo Lamas, Mike Brown, Urijah Faber, Kenny Florian, Chan Sung Jung, Frankie Edgar, Chad Mendes, the list goes on and on. While some performances were definitely better than others, Jose Aldo has already proven himself to be a force to be reckoned with time and again. But it wasn’t until his most recent win over Mendes that MMA fans were beginning to question the champ’s abilities. Generation Iron Jose Aldo Chad Mendez His bout with Chad Mendes was an absolute war, one that many onlookers think may have taken something out of the two warriors. Never has Aldo appeared more hittable. Granted, Chad Mendes has turned into quite the striking threat in recent years, setting up his power shots and wrestling beautifully with technical mastery, but still, Aldo looked far more vulnerable than he ever has and that has risen some red flags. All that being said, Aldo is no doubt still an absolute beast. There’s no indication that he’ll be off his game when it comes fight time and against his most bitter rival to date. But this fight won’t be an easy one for Aldo who finds himself as the underdog for the first time in, maybe, ever. Anyone with a strong knowledge base of MMA understands that the odds are much closer than that. I think it’s about even in my book with both men bringing X-Factors into this much anticipated match up. Aldo’s blistering speed and well rounded game, McGregor’s timing and power. It’s certainly going to be an interesting fight to breakdown. So should Jose Aldo be considered the underdog in his match with Conor McGregor? Have the MMA public forsaken the long time champ?
