At 71, Robby “The Black Prince” Robinson Still Puts Us All To Shame

Robby Robinson is still a beast.

Robby “The Black Prince” Robinson was born in Damascus Georgia to a single mother. He discovered his propensity for training early in life and built a bodybuilding career that spanned the better part of three decades. In 2001 he retired with many of the sport’s most prestigious accolades to his name. Now, 17 years later he is still putting us all to shame.

Various pictures have surfaced over the past couple of months showing Robby’s impressive body, making him a perfect example of what can be accomplished in terms of bodybuilding longevity.

Robinson first got his serious start in athletics at Florida A&M playing Football and Track and Field. While training for these sports he got his first taste of serious gym life and entered his first bodybuilding competition. With more experience he was able to capitalize on a good set of genetics and really carry his training to the top level. He competed in over 300 amateur shows before turning pro in 1975.

In his very first year as a professional, Robby won the IFBB Mr America, Mr World, and Mr Universe titles, and continued to feature prominently at the highest level all over the world throughout his career. Fans may also remember him from his role in Pumping Iron.

After retirement, Robby made a strong effort to remain active. He became a personal trainer, artist, and actor. He also wrote a book, produced workout DVD’s and made routine guest poses.

Robby has made waves in retirement by speaking out against the flaws he sees in modern bodybuilding. A noteworthy post from his Facebook read:

WHAT’S SAD IS THE ORGANIZATIONS: AMI, IFBB, NPC, MUSCLE FITNES, FLEX MAGAZINES, THESE CORP, POWERS CONTROLS THE BUSINESS, TO SEE THEM CONTINUE GO INTO VERBAL SHUT DOWN IS SHAMEFUL..SOMEBODY SHOULD HAVE SOME BALLS, AND MAKE SOME DECISIONS, TO CLEAN UP THIS CESS-POOL MAKE SOME POSITIVE CHANGES….THE BODYBUILDING COMMUNITY HAS BECOME A GRAVEYARD OF TOMBSTONES…. ”WHO IS NEXT.”

His words seem more relevant than ever this season, but he is not just another angry poster. He is an experienced former pro, and a living example of the excellence and longevity that can be accomplished through proper means.
