Battle of the Giants! Deontay Wilder Agrees to Fight Anthony Joshua to Unify Heavyweight Title!

Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua are one step closer to doing battle.

In the sporting world it’s rare to get exactly what we want. We can dream, hope, wish for something to come to pass, but there are no certainties. When it comes to combat sports that ideology is spot on. There’s no telling exactly how a fight will play out. There’s also no telling whether a major fight will get booked or not. It took Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao years of quibbling over the details until they were able to make their fight happen. Even the Gennady Golovkin-Canelo Alvarez rematch seems to be in danger with it’s on again, off again scenario.

Despite boxing having a clear history of never giving the fans what they want, when they want it, it seems that the two most prominent heavyweights in the sport are truly pushing forward to do battle. WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder has agreed to a bout with IBF/WBA/WBO Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua to unify the belts. Rather than quarrel over every little thing, it seems that Deontay Wilder is willing to put home field advantage aside and give the fans the fight they’ve been crying for, in Anthony Joshua’s backyard no less.

This comes as no surprise as both Wilder and Joshua have been calling for a match for some time. Now that both men have won their championships, beaten solid opposition and defended their belts, it seems like a no brainer to put on a fight between two of the best heavyweights in the world. Rather than waiting until they’re no longer in their prime, the fighters hope to prove who is the consensus best heavyweight boxer on the planet.

UK promoter Eddie Hearn has reportedly sent out the paper work for Deontay Wilder and his camp to sign to make everything official. Once that happens, you can expect the boxer community to erupt with joy as they are served the fight they’ve been salivating over for the last couple of years. It truly speaks volumes to their pride and self confidence that both Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua want to prove who the best man truly is. In a day and age where fans don’t usually get exactly what they want, when they want it, it’s a true pleasure to see this event on the horizon.
