Davoud Sohrabi was in a coma for over seven weeks after being shot.

Bodybuilder Davoud Sohrabi died last week after being shot on the street during protests in Iran.

Sohrabi, who became known as the “Brad Pitt of Iran,” was shot in the eye on January 7 and rushed to the hospital soon after. He underwent surgery to remove one of his eyes and fell into a coma shortly after. After 50 days, Sohrabi did not show signs of improvement and passed on Tuesday.

Sohrabi has over 57k followers on Instagram. Following the news of his death, many fans shard condolences with messages on social media.

“What a beautiful young man. God bless him and his family.”

“Heartbreaking. They are slaughtering our talented young brothers and sisters.”

Sohrabi’s funeral took place on Wednesday where he was buried in the courtyard of Imamzadeh Yahya, which is in the neighborhood where he grew up, according to Iran Wire.

Davoud Sohrabi moved to Tehran to continue his bodybuilding dreams. He trained as a competitor while also working as a bodybuilding coach with the hopes of helping others better themselves. Prior to that, Sohrabi worked as a motorcycle courier. Just two hours before he was shot in January, Sohrabi had competed in a bodybuilding competition at the Shush Club for Southeast Tehran. Sohrabi won a silver medal during the event.

Bodybuilding Champion Killed During Protests

Davoud Sohrabi was not the only bodybuilder killed during the peaceful protests in Iran in January.

Mehdi Zatparvar died after being shot by Iranian government forces in the city of Rasht in Gilan Province. At the time, it was speculated that over 500 protesters have been killed over the past two weeks but this exact figure has not been confirmed.

Zatparvar, 39, was a bodybuilding coach and competitor who began training at a young age with his father. Zatparvar was the son of Majod Zatparvar, a well-known bodybuilding coach who owned his own gym. This is where Zatparvar began training at just 13 years old. He eventually gained a passion for strength sports and turned it into a career in fitness. Zatparvar won multiple titles in powerlifting between 2011 and 2014.

On the bodybuilding stage, Zatparvar was a two-time World Classic Bodybuilding champion. He held a master’s degree in sports physiology, which allowed him to get into coaching as well.
