Lenny Persin, known as ‘Big Lenny,’ suffered from a condition called Palumboism.
Bodybuilder Lenny Persin, also known as “Big Lenny,” has passed away at 60 years old due to heart failure. The news was shared on Friday by Jon Bravo via YouTube.
“I have sad news to tell everyone that Big Lenny of the Del Rey Misfits passed away this morning and that it was heart failure.”
Big Lenny had previously shared that he was suffering from congestive heart failure. He had been dealing with a condition called Palumboism, which is another term used to describe bloating in the abdomen. It is often linked to the use of insulin and HGH but there are other factors as well.
“Congestive heart failure, which makes the left ventricle of my heart doesn’t pump blood out properly as it should.”

Big Lenny Competed During Many Bodybuilding Events
Big Lenny enjoyed a bodybuilding career that allowed him to entertain fans both on and off the stage. He most recently competed in 2017 at the NPC Ruby Championships. He became known for his unique physique on stage and his big personality off it.
Lenny Persin made an impression on all he encountered due to his positivity he brought to everything he did.
“I had the chance to know him and he was a gentle giant. One of the biggest guys in the room and if there’s one thing we can all learn from Big Lenny is that he lived each day to the fullest and it didn’t matter if he lived in a rundown apartment filled with roaches and dirt and mold. Each day, he had a smile on his face and each day, he found a way to make himself happy.”
Bravo is one of many to speak highly of Persin and the great light he brought to the sport of bodybuilding. Generation Iron sends condolences to family and friends during this time. For more news and updates, follow Generation Iron on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
