Bodybuilders Stock Up On Dangerous Pre-Workout Supplement Despite Reported Deaths

Anything for and edge.

Bodybuilding can be viewed in a number of ways depending on your perspective and goals. On one hand it can be viewed as a fairly health endeavor that requires individuals to push past their limits in order to see great physical results. On the other hand, bodybuilding can be extreme leading to people taking any and every supplement on the market just in order to get some kind of edge. In the case of DMAA, a dangerous pre-workout supplement, it appears that bodybuilders are willing to take their chances despite evidence that the product could be severely harmful to their health, even deadly.

The Daily Mail reported on the deadly pre-workout supplement that has had some deadly effects on bodybuilders.

“We’re seeing relatively young, fit, healthy men dying of heart attacks associated with this drug, so it is very dangerous,” said toxicologist Andrew Leibie to 7NEWS.

The supplement has been widely distributed through Australia and New Zealand. It makes you wonder how such a product was able to find it’s way onto the market.

“[DMAA] itself is fairly toxic and has been associated with deaths in Australia and more recently in New Zealand.”

Despite the evidence, it seems that people are still keen on using the pre-workout supplement, dangerous side effects or not.

“People were quite annoyed [about the ban] to be honest,” said supplements provider Tayley Howard.

It just gives you window into the mindset that certain lifters have in order to push themselves to the next level. People are willining to put their health at risk for the pursuit of greater muscle. But you have to wonder, what’s the point if that pursuit gets you killed? But some people simply can’t be rationalized with as many individuals looked to get as much DMAA as possible before the drug was banned last year.

“I know they were trying to stock up on the products before they got taken off the shelves.”
