Bodybuilder Ashish Sakharkar was crowned Mr. India four times in his career.

Former four-time Mr. India champion bodybuilder Ashish Sakharkar has passed away at 43 years old. According to The Siasat Daily, officials say that Sakharkar died late on Tuesday night after battling an illness for a prolonged period of time. The news is being reported by multiple outlets in India.

Hiral Sheth, the general secretary for the Indian Bodybuilders Federation, said that Sakharkar was admitted to a hospital in south Mumbai last week after suffering from certain health issues. The exact details of his health have not been shared to this point.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra State shared a post on Twitter mourning the loss of the bodybuilder.

“Ashish Sakharkar, who won many prestigious titles like Mr. Maharashtra, four times Mr. India, Mr. Universe, has sadly passed away. Heartbroken by the death of Ashish Sakharkar, a respected figure in the bodybuilding world. His departure has caused an immeasurable loss to the bodybuilding industry.

We pray that God bless his soul and give strength to the members of the Sakharkar family to recover from this grief. A heartfelt tribute.”
