A Rochester robber broke into an older woman’s house last week, but the home invasion didn’t exactly go as planned.
Willie Murphy, an 82-year-old grandmother who also happens to hold the Ironmaiden national record for for bench reps, was taken by surprise last Thursday night when she found herself the victim of a home invasion at her house in Rochester, New York. Murphy is a competitive powerlifter, a five-foot tall woman who weighs 105 pounds and can deadlift 225 pounds. You can probably imagine what happens next.
“I took [the kitchen] table and I went to working on him,” Murphy said. “And guess what? The table broke.”
Murphy battered the intruder with a variety of household objects including a chair and broom. By the time the police arrived in response to her earlier call, the man was already on the floor.
“I was whaling on that man,” Murphy said of the incident. “’Cause I said to myself, ‘If it’s my time to go to hell, I’m taking him with me!’”
Murphy was the World Natural Powerlifting champion of upstate New York in 2018. She was voted Lifter of the Year in 2014 and holds national records in multiple age brackets. She said the intruder seemed relieved to be taken away when the ambulance finally did arrive.
“I think he was happy when he went in the ambulance because I sent him in the ambulance,” Murphy recalls.
Let that be a lesson to anyone looking to steal from Willie Murphy. If you come knocking at her door, be prepared for what she sends your way.
